with it being 2 wings and more weight a small motor will usually fly a bird like this wiht out any issues. A BME-100 throws this BG Ultimate around like its kewl at 25.5 lbs. I sent motor in about 6 months ago and had it converted to a 111 by using the bottom end of a 115. Then I had to get some new landing gear made to give me more prop to ground room. I like a plane that has 2 wings i have a used H-9 to work on when i get some money.

I had Li-ion batts., Carbon spinner, and drill lightning holes .( holes only saved 3.5 ozs[>:]) Nothing extra (ie, rudder trays, power Xpanders, nothing) I had 1 R770 with 3 2800ma, 3 Fromoca regs .
Mine was 29LBS on a UPS scale. My old BME isn't as light as a 110. but even at 2 lbs diff.(?) there's no way that plane will weigh 26 lbs. The only thing I could have done was Carbon tubes (all of them, wings and stab) maybe a 1/2 lbs. No one made a C/F gear and still may not but the stock gear was fairly light.

If you buy one you'll love it, just plan on a 100cc +.

BTW I lost mine because I had the Idle to low and It cut off 20 feet up after comming out of a KE spin into Harrier. NO speed or Altitude. It bellied in and shattered.
I'm hoping to get another before they sell out.

Mine had C Cell Nicads, The original Aluminum gear and nothing to lighten whatsover and it was well under 27 pounds. I cannot remember to the ounce but it was in the low 26's.
If yours weighed 29 pounds with the BME 100 something sounds like something was drastically wrong, that means that plane would have weighed close to 31 pounds with a DA100. I would go with 29 pounds with a DA 100 but not with the 110, not saying yours did not but it sounds like you got some really heavy lumber or they produced them with really heavy lumber.
This plane is 8-10" (87" vs. 96-98") shorter than most other planes in the 100CC class and it only has a little bit more wing area than a typical monowing.
I am curious to know if mine was really that much lighter than the later production models.

Did you take anything out of the plane when you got it from Todd? He told me that when he had the prototype with the BME 110 it weighed 28 lbs. I believe that is the same plane you have/had. This plane seems to have a very wide range of posted weights but it sounds like it flys great anyway.

It is the exact same plane that Todd had, I went and picked it up from Todds garage for goodness sake.
Look, I digress. I did not take anything out of the plane. All I can tell you is that I weighed the plane and the plane that I owned most definitely weighed a little over 26 pounds with the BME 110, Futaba 9151s on the ailerons and elevators and some non digital metal geared Futabas on the rudder, exactly the way it came to me. I am not going to argue any longer with anyone about how much my plane weighed. I have no reason to make this stuff up. If the mass produced ones weigh 28 pounds with a BME 110, then they are extremely heavy is all I can say. I am TELLING you how much the plane weighed, its not even open for arguement, it is what it is.
Near the end I did eventually change over to Lithium batteries though, that only saved a few ounces.

I just want to clearify that my BME was the older 100. It's about the same weight as a DA.

But even FLYRC (LYRC) siad it was 26 lbs. It's amazing how all there review planes come out at the LOW weight. With AL. spinner and NiMH 2800 5cell (bricks).
Anyways, Had I had a 110 on mine, I would have been a tad over 27lbs. Heck the main wings and struts were 8 1/2lbs.

[8D] 27 pounds (~1lb or less difference does not surprise me) but it does surprise me that you had to go all CF to get it that light. Again the wood in that lot must have been fairly heavy.
I write airplane reviews for RCU myself. I write for mostly 3D planes and I know that weight is a critical performance factor so it is what it is for me. I dont sugar coat anything. I just put em together, fly em and let the chips fall. Honestly even when they are less than perfect reviews I have never had a distributor complain, most of them build good planes and are comfortable with the truth. If they are not, they usually will not let you review their plane.

Awesome. I think a lot of people will learn a lot with your experience. I for one will be watching. I think it will be a pretty decent match for this bird. There is tons of room to move the batteries and other gear around so you should be able to balance it without issue. Keep us posted!

I tried a 27A in it in the back yard a few weeks ago and it bogged it down hard. I could not believe it made such a huge difference. I think I was getting about 5750 or so for RPM. I also bolted on a 28 x 10 Mejzlik and got 6020 RPM. I have 3 gallons on the motor and it turns a 26A vess like it’s a paper prop. I am running the JTEC muffler on this day I got 6750 out of the 26A. Prior to me letting the motor sit I would get around 6900K on that prop. I did not start moving the h-needle which I sure it would need to be richer but I wanted to know how the DA would handle those props. I did not fly any of them.

I have an BME-100 that I sent to Keith in Aug of last year and had him use my jugs and pistons and install new rings and the bottom end of the 115. Now I have a BME-111. I presently have a 26 x 10 Mejzlik on there. That is why I have that 27A and the 28 x 10 Mejzlik to try on that deal. I just thought i was way out of the band on that 27A. I know my DA-85 is on a 21.5 lbs plane and that 26A is actually picking up speed on uplines if I nail it. I use to turn a 26 x 10 Mejzlik in the 6100-6300 Range. I can get 6900-7k on the same prop now with me being on my 3rd gallon. Have u found the 27A to fit your needs the best so far? Its good to hear the DA was loving it I felt a tear come to my eye to see the tach below 6k on that prop
