Toy grade, then I got a couple of Mini-Zs, then when I jumped to hobby-grade stuff I went straight to Nitro.

Haven't looked back since. I absolutely adore these tiny little engines...and they sound freaking awesome too.

I LOVE the nitro stampede. There's something about it. It's too bad you had a lemon.

My first was a Traxxas Bandit Kit. Had a blast building that thing, thought it was so fast when I got done. Still have it somewhere...

My first RC car was a Tamiya Sand Scorcher that I got from my Grandad back in 1980, I still have it and it still runs like new. Never had a problem with it, actually thinking about getting a new one since Tamiya has just reintroduced it.
Any body wanting to get into the hobby and want something tough, try the Sand scorcher out.

First RC was Electric. Got a Tamiya GrassHopper when I was about 11 and never got out of the hobby.

As for the whole Electric / Nitro thing. Tried Nitro for a couple of years. Was fun at first but the noise and cost got old fast. Went back to Electric when the battery tech took off and never looked back.

not counting all the nikko and tyco ...i started with nitro.
ditto
last tyco I drove was probably in '94 got my 1st hobby grade RC in 2009 which was a used nitro MT1
Got 2 more nitros after that

Also bought a quite a few elecs since though seeing I had issues finding any that made me happy like the 3 nitros
Eventually I just got a few nitro rollers and made them electric to finally get a electric that made me happy

As well as you guys, the first cars i fot were the tycos. They were fun enough, but once broke, thats it. My first real rc was a beagle. It was a kyosho optima rip-off. I actually kina miss it. Tough as nails, although i don't miss those mechanical speed controllers-yuch. Have had lots of other electrics and nitros since.

Nice. You putting a Hyabusa engine in it? How'd you get ahold of one? I thought they weren't being produced any more.

Hi Tommygun, I intend on putting a Hyabusa GSXR1300 in it, yes, but one with a turbo. +/- 500BHP in a car that only waighs 440Kg, should be fun.
Got it in England second hand, the original owner died in a train accident before putting it together so I bought it from his wife for a good price.(8000euro)
As far as I know there are only 3 here in Belgium and they are just being used on the race circuit, I want mine on the road for bashing around in the summer. Maybe take it over to Germany and go screaming down the Autobahn where there are NO speed limits.
Thinking about getting the fillings taken out my teeth though first.

My first was a Tamiya Grasshopper in 1985 or 86. Electric. Me and my kids had a blast with that and the ones to follow, a Big Bear and a HotShot.

Tamiya Lunchbox....I was completely green on rc's and very young.  I remember getting the whole thing together (very difficult), then having to take it all apart because I forgot to add grease in all the places the manual shows the little tube picture lol.  Had a blast with it until the 540 motor started going bad....which I know now is normal to comm cut and so on....but at time I thought it just shot the crapper......didnt play with it much after that.

Stayed out of the hobby for years after that...and picked it back up during college as something to play with between classes and bar nights.  Dropped the hobby again while getting into career....picked it back up recently once I had my son.  Having a little one turned back the clock a bit thinking back at what toys I had a good time with in the past.

ah, my old traxxas nitro sport SE. i got it used(bad idea for a newb) it was alot of fun when it wanted to run. other days i spend alot of time trying to figure out why it wouldnt work. not so much an issue with the truck being bad, as me being new to hobby grade and nitros in general.
fortunately, i found RCU shortly after getting it. that helped alot. had the truck 1 summer, then sold it as parts and went electric.

still have good memories of running my nitro sport with sand paddle tires in a sand pit tho!
