How did 3MM manage to get 3/4 lbs weight savings over the DA100? What alloy is used? The cooling fins look pretty thin and the mounting lugs are thick.

I do know this much. I started talking with them about the importance of weight over a year ago. They re-cast the cylinders to save weight, I know that much, and that's an expensive step to take. I suspect that they worked hard to reduce reciprocating weight because this allows the crankshaft to balance properly with less counterweight. Just a guess, but there are a lot of tricks to building a light engine that mostly require attention to detail.
I like to think that me staying on them about weight had an effect on the design. I had a feeling that it would be possible to hit somewhere between the DA-100 and the BME-115. The old BME 102 weighed about 5 lbs. and was an excellent engine.

Will the exhaust flanges be compatible with DA or 3W engines for those who want to run canisters or pipes?

Hopefully by the time the engine is available as a production unit I'll have everything that's needed.

I estimate 3 months, but that may be optimistic. They are working diligently but carefully, and they/we do not want to release something with problems.

Do you have any ballpark estimate on when I could buy one from you? 3 months? 6 months?

How is this looking at this point, and do you have any new 100 class airframes coming out to slap it into?

Yes, we have two new 100cc planes coming in September. A 105" Extra 260 replaces the Extra 300, basically the same plane with some small engineering changes and a new look.
And then we are at last releasing the 102.5" Edge 540 which is a really nice lightweight 3D beast.
Thanks for asking. It would be really nice if the new engines became available with the new planes, wouldn't it?

Only this. I spoke with them a few days ago, they expected to receive revised engines in the next week or so, Then will begin testing, which will take an unknown time.
You guys need to understnd that a delivery date can not be predicted until the engine has passed testing. Until them there's no way to be sure it will pass the test, a failure could set the whole project back.
I'll let you know when I know something.

Sort of good news. As of a couple daus ago they have all the parts in, now it's a matter of testing and QA. Let's just hope that all goes well.

RE: NEW 3MM106cc twin coming
Guys
Got our new TMM106 today and its very very nice indeed. (1 of the first 3 in Australia)
It will be going into a World Models 36% Katana.
Our 53's continue to excel, fantastic engines and I expect the 106 to be every bit as good.
Do yourself a favour and try them, they are turning heads over here.
No need to get all technical, fit them, set the needles at factory settings, run it in (use your weed wacker fuel) and go fly, ours have never stopped in the air.
Just put 6 litres (about 60 aerotows) of fuel thru a 53 during a 3 day aerotow and it never missed a beat.
Also got 2 canisters with the 106 that are absolutely 1st class, better than anything I have seen yet, all aluminium, I will post some pics later.
I can't believe the ridiculous prices asked for canisters...
Theres a chinese one being sold all over the place (approx $145 upwards out here) and its nothing but an expensive piece of thin walled overpriced junk.[:'(]
We, thats myself and my other mates that have them, really like 3MM, TMM engines, have no affiliation to anyone or anything, just letting others know about the excellent performance of these engines, thats why I started this thread, and I am sorry that some.... people were not impressed and\or thought I was misinformed, tough biscuit, life is too short.
The words now out there, go get yourself one you won't be sorry.

RE: NEW 3MM106cc twin coming
Hard to sell something over here unless you have them to sell. We also like to see how well they will hold up for long term before we say they are really great. Until we have time on something we don't really know how good or bad it will be. We don't like it if customers have smething that does bot work out as well as it could have. So we wait until we run them a bit rather than get one or two in and say they are the great at anything before they have even been flown. At the moment there are a couple in the air over here being tested. So far so good from what I've been told.
The engine was originally supposed to have been a 114 based upon info from the manufacturer but the displacement changed a bit after the first prototype was made. It was then reduced to a 106. I'm guessing there were some math errors in calculating the displacement of the original engine.
The 53 is a great engine over here too. Has been for a long time now.

Why don't you post the info here, or in your support forum, so the guys can really see how good these 3MM, TMM engines are.
After all that is why this thread exists, to get the word out there amongst fellow flyers.
Retailers, like yourself, and fellow flyers are the winners here.
We continue to be blown away by the performance of the 3MM 53's and I expect the 106 to be every bit as good.
Cheers
