thanks for the info, as for landing speed, very managable with 60 degrees of flap and speed brakes on approach. it is very comparable to my composite reaction 54.
I guess I will get it ready to fly with the tanks and see how it goes. it flies fine without them, so I guess it must fly ok with them
thanks Kevin

RE: Fei Bao F86 Sabre
Hi Marty,
I'll be in contact soon to discuss engines.
Mike, yes they certainly did a good job. I doubt this will be the only one they do, I'd say it'll be the first of many in this pattern.
I'll post more pics once I receive it.
Regards
Jam.

Jam- certainly looks the business in the Aussie colours I must admit
I would seriously recommend considering the lower thrust turbines as anything over 25 lb thrust is really serious overkill and not needed for this airframe plus the bigger turbines are rather thirsty and will restrict flight times dramatically when using the stock FB fuel cells. Ideally any of the newer smaller 18-22 lb thrust class turbines are best suited in my opinion for this airframe ie P-70, Merlin 90, Wren Super Sport, Kingtech K80, EvoJet 90. No noticible trim changes are required either when slowing and deploying flaps and/or speed brakes which is nice. The FB F-86 does lack some of the higher surface detail when compared to some other manufacturers offerings, but it certainly still does make a very good value and great flying sport scale intro jet no denying that.
Joe- are using the flaps and speed brakes?
Cheers- Marty

Just got first Photo’s of my Fei Bao Sabre with custom paint. Should be delivered from the factory in the next week or so. Thinking about a Jetcat P120SX.

Yes I am using the flaps and speed brakes. Still seems to land hot. I am going to add another half onuce of wieght to the tail to see if that helps. I already have 1/2 ounce in the tail now.

Interesting.... I do not have any experience with the Simjet 2300 so just wondering if it maybe has a higher residual thrust at idle? Just wondering why it would be not slowing down easily for you??

Joe,
You may be landing too flat or its still nose heavy. Try coming in with some altitude reducing power as she decends while pulling back on the elev to get some aoa going and work it all the way to touch down..I don`t have a FB Sabre but i have 150flights on a SM F-86.

My SM is balanced per the instructions. It may be slightly nose heavy but i have not had any problem with elev authority or landings so i left it right where it was since the first flight. How many Sabre flights do you have so far?? it does take some time with a new jet to get it all dialed in, especially landings.

RE: Fei Bao F86 Sabre
Hello,
Is there a manual out there for the FB F-86. Planning to start soon as I am overseas at the moment. If not is the SM one a good guide.
Thanks
Dave

no manual is supplied with the kit, but there is ample info in this thread and a few others. there are no real problems and it is mostly an install as all building is done. control throws and such are elsewhere in this thread and it flies great with no bad habits.

Hi all,
I’m in the process of constructing my Fei Bao F86 at the moment. Need a little help on the Center of Gravity. Does anyone have any data on an accurate GoG for this model?
Some accurate figures would be greatly appreciated, from anyone who is currently flying this Jet.
Regards
Jam.

RE: Fei Bao F86 Sabre
cg is one inch ahead of the mains. set mine there and never looked back. checked with uat full and gear down. all the fuel is ahead of the cg, but trim dies not change throughout the flight. great flying plane.

RE: Fei Bao F86 Sabre
Well, my Sabre has had six successful flights. [8D] We had to modify the tanks to get the CofG right. Beautiful build by Peter, flown by me. Great airframe with a JetCat P80SE in it. See video link below.

Since I started this thread originally it doesn't seem to have got very far.
I actually got round to purchasing my F86 at long last (after several other models) and have started a build thread on the following link
http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/index.php/topic,87079.0.html
The reason I did this is because to this day there are no instructions to be found anywhere and I thought it may just help someone that's not too experienced on putting one of these together.
Gary.

Hi guys, especially Kevin and Vincent.
Just finished my 86 today and it comes out at just under 25 lbs dry.
Balance was spot on the mains with empty uat and no ecu lipo, I simulated uat fuel with a 4 oz weight and placed the lipo at the front of the intake tube and it's now spot on 1" in front of main gear so looks good.
Couple of pics, fingers crossed now and waiting for the great British weather to settle!
Happy New Year to all F86 owners!

RE: Fei Bao F86 Sabre
Here is my new FB Jets F86 with Kingtech 80 test flown off grass with tanks fitted.

Model went really well. Only issue is the nose wheel needs positive mechanical down lock to prevent collapsing. Also make sure the nose wheel steering is disengage with gear up.
Thanks
