I am a xl owner and i have to disagree with some parts of your post. The savage is ez pz to work on, seriously, 5 screws and theres your diff. The k5.9 is a GREAT bashing engine!! Gobs of torque and doesnt wheelie on loose dirt (throttle control anyone?) Mine has been a breeze to tune, runs great no matter what, and its just a great engine. Also, your thinking of the savage x that tips over, the xl has the extra added chassis length and that helps big time on the roll overs. I also hear about lots of t-maxx's rolling over. And you said you have bent tvp's and blown diffs, thats a sign you need to be easier on your truck. And yes the xl needs a big block to keep up to a sb revo because its about 5lbs heavier because its a TRUE 1/8 scale going onto 1/7 scale truck. You heard what rcnitrohead said, hes spend maybe $40 repairing his savage, then the $600 making it more durable and replacing parts on the truck! Thats like my revo, i have over $500 in repairs because of mech failures and the savage was just the initial investment of $602 and then the revo was $600 (dang overpriced lhs) then another $500 on top of that, then another $300 upgrading it to keep up with the savage. So i have a $1400 dollar truck thats not as durable as a savvy, and can just keep up to it. This guy is not racing, hes bashing, the best basher is a savage, the t-maxx is old, has a less than sub-par engine and is smaller

although I agree for bashing you can't beat a Savage with a stick.....but some of the comments here are just eronious in many ways.
first: small block vs big block.....as they say there is no replacement for displacement but having run many gallons thorugh both types of engines I prefer the small block for 1/10th scale models ie: REVO Tmaxx they are designed to run on small blocks and thats where they shine.
The Savage is by far the worst RC to work on I hate working on it.....the X models are somewhat better but still same TVP design that I don't like.....
Next the 5.9 is a turd of an engine and in my opinion no better and no worse than any TRX engine...they are just RTR engines............just ask any XL owner tha has experience with non RTR engines.
Any of my Maxx's out handle any Savage I've ever owned or driven.
Savages wheely very easy because they have a very high centre of gravity...they also roll over if you even whisper the words "Sharp Turn"....wheelies are kewl for about 5 minutes LOL but I'd rather see the rear squat and the truck just take off like a rocket.
I will say one final thing all RC's will break no matter which brand....yes even the Savage. I've bent TVPs blown several diffs, broken drive shafts, broken bulkheads and diff carriers,,,engine plates,,,tranny gears ect,,ect.
It all boils down to personnel prefferance thats it.

I just dont like the t-maxx, i dont know why?? Just seems cheap? The savvy has alum where it needs it, plastic in the right places, to access the diffs is just 5-6 screws! And the engine is 100000x better than the trx 3.3 imo. The 3.3 sucks, who would put a small block in a monster truck anyway? The savage wins in the durability and engine department, im not sure whats left in the basher department. The k5.9 engine is HUGE! Very sweet engine, it keeps up when my revo had the 3.3 in it and it wasnt even tuned good.
Savage wins!

Not to be an ***** but why is it everytime some body wants an opinion on a vehicle everyone throws out their opinions. I believe that everyone is going to be bias towards one or another it should be up to the person that wants to buy the truck. You are going to break a butt load of parts no matter what vehicle you get. I break alot of stuff on my truck but let me tell you what i am having alot of fun when i do it it doesnt bring me down like most people just gives me another reason to spend some cash. It is a hobby all hobbies cost money and will keep spending money on it. But tmaxx savage aftershock etc etc...... Just get what you want and have some fun.

You need to stop being a fanboy, seriously. Obviously you blow diffs a lot because that's the only repair you mention, lol. From the sounds of it, you don't even know anything about the T-Maxx. I've broken one part on my t-maxx and that was because I flew off the track and landed in a fence. Cost me $6 to repair. Had my T-Maxx over a month and I bash this thing to the ground, breaking one part after everyday bashing for a strait month.... not bad.

RE: best basher
Wow T-max97, you have one of the spoken trucks and it is the crappiest one in this discussion. Maybe when you become a big boy and experience quality, then you can say which is best... Quad is right, my T-maxx ripped 2 diffs from a Sirio .18 engine, and I never even did donuts with it!?!?
My Savage screams with my STS .30 pulling my tires apart and it turns them into pizza cutters, not one diff failure or driveline failure- its surprised me...
I'm not saying that the Savage is the best truck at all, but its waay more evolved in its present form than the newest T-maxx series.

I happen to agree with Tom here; the savage is probably definitely quite a bit ahead of the tmaxx in terms of the overall design, performance, etc. and the durability, etc as well....

OP you got a very good truck in the aftershock....actually the aftershock and LST or LST2 combine the best of both the savage and the tmaxx with the twin deck chassis design......one of the weakest points on the Losi MT's are the diff carriers....they snap pretty easily but other than that a real tough RC good luck and have fun.

no its not......that is simply your opinion.........they are totally differant designs so to compare them on a deisgn standpoint is futile....Performance is relative with many differant factors contributing to it.....as well as durability........Tmaxx is the # 1 selling RC Monster Truck of all time for many differant reasons...Not the Savage. Without the Tmaxx there would have been no Savages girls so stop trying to make it the other way round LOL. I've owned both and I'm here to tell you the Savage .21's .25's SS's x's all handle like a cement block with wheels LOL....the XL I'm not sure cause I havent' owned one yet and I likely won't unless they drop the price by about 200 bucks.

My Savage screams with my STS .30 pulling my tires apart and it turns them into pizza cutters, not one diff failure or driveline failure- its surprised me...
I'm not saying that the Savage is the best truck at all, but its waay more evolved in its present form than the newest T-maxx series.

OP you got a very good truck in the aftershock....actually the aftershock and LST or LST2 combine the best of both the savage and the tmaxx with the twin deck chassis design......one of the weakest points on the Losi MT's are the diff carriers....they snap pretty easily but other than that a real tough RC good luck and have fun.
i never said the t-maxx is better! my t-maxx sucks! and just becouse your older than me does not mean i dont know about quality trucks!!![:@]

Heck with any MT's...... Bash a Truggy instead...more durable, more capable, and much easier to work on.....

They don't have the ground clearence or offroad capability of an MT. Plus it's not an MT.

They will go over everything a MT can...they run the same tires ! And thank god they aren't a MT.....[:-]

Ground clearence... Truggies are low slung and built for the track. Same tires or not they don't have the suspension travel or clearence. At a construction site or any where there's rocks, ruts, etc MT is king.

^ Well don't you have an answer for everything...
I'll agree that truggies are built better, and obviously perform better under most conditions; but the MT class will never die. The leaned out low slung trucks will never take over the high horsepower (exception of Traxxas and Kyosho) high clearance big tired trucks[8D]

FINALLY! Someone who agrees with me! The t-max has got to be the worst mt that is made by one of the big boys in rc (losi, hpi, traxxas ect.). Its just old technology, sure it was the original monster truck and was the best seller in like 2004. When it came stock with a .15 it was crazy fast because that was a big engine for mt's back then. But now traxxas is way behind in the 8 suspension mt class, who puts a .20 into a monster truck? Like really? You dont go to a mt show and see big trucks with v6's in them, no their huge fire breathing monsters! They havent really changed the t-maxx in the 10 or so years its been out. If traxxas made a completely new nitro truck (not electric like they have been doing!! [:@]) with an 8 suspension in it and they teamed up with ofna made a new truck with the picco .28 or a .26 they could make a savage killer if they put some thought into it. Or even if they made a new mt and made a new engine like a mid block .26 im sure it would be great! Comparing the t-maxx to a new truck is like comparing a 6in screen laptop with a floppydisk drive and 6gb of storage, then comparing to a new apple with 800gb of storage and a 21in screen.
