How long is your runway?
160 meters but is in a hill and at both ends there is a deep hole......

Hey Guillermo,

Sorry to hear about the damage to your F-16. I maybe down there sometime soon it seems to fly with our friend, if so, maybe we can work together on some flights and get you setup with that bird.

I know that field real well, not very forgiving! And not much flying can be done past 11am, the winds start to howl pretty good.

Have you guys done anymore work to the runway to clean it up some? maybe resurface it?
Hey David, nice to hear you man.....congratulations for your 1st place on Top Gun and for your new little boy....

I know you have many experience with the F-16

Thanks for posting here that this runway is not very forgiving, especially when being said from a very experienced jet pilot.

Hope to have you here soon.

Skymaster time for the wings is 4 weeks. Maybe when you come here, she will be ready to fly

The runway is the same as your last visit in June 2.009.

Unfortunately, neither the club members nor our friend has resurface it because the new Free Zone next to the airfield is trying to negotiate with the airfield owner those lands for expanding them, but this negotiations has more than a year without any changes and we are thinking that is not going to be done.

But nobody want to make an investment without being sure that we are going to stay there 20 years more.

Only maintenance expenses are being done.

Keep in touch

Hi Guillo....

Man... that sucks. hope you get her fixed soon. Dont you have gyros on the plane? That should have kept her really smooth into the final. When do you think she will be ready to fly again?

My kit should arrive this week.... if i can find it on fedex that is.... tracking number isnt in the fedex system yet.... have asked John./Michel/Vickyu to confirm the tracking number but they havnt come back yet. Hopefully it arrives soon! Cant wait to compare notes and settings.

Regards

Rob

Hi Rob:

I already ordered the two wings and it will take 4 weeks to deliver. I think that by the end of June, she will be flying again.

Yes, I have two gyros in the plane but I used them for the first time in the second flight. This flight, I didn't turn the gyros on. But the problem was not gyros, but tail wind.
Hope you are flying your new F-16 soon.

Post pictures when she arrive to your front door.....
Good luck on the next try. And most important, when problems start, stay calm.

Guillermo,

I know that the wind shifted on you (and that sucks, brother) on the last flight but you don't seem to be having a lot of luck with this jet. No offense intended but you are 3 for 3.

As the saying goes, take offs are optional but landings are mandatory. Maybe you should see what you can do to stack the deck more in your favor, such as delay flight 4 until the wind is near perfect.

Regards,

Jim

Hi Jim:

Not 3 for 3 but 2 for 3 because first flight was OK. She landed although on a scary approach, but in one piece. And my first F-16 flew 22 times from February 9 to August 10 2.008 when a voltage drop caused a crash.

Thats exactly what I am trying and is to wait until the day is perfect. That is overcats days, wind calm and we are now in this season, so days are now perfect. Just waiting for my wing s to arrive.

Guillermo,

Sorry to hear about your 3rd landing. I know what it’s like to have a slight wind at your tail with an F-16. My Cermark F-16 (no flaps or air brakes) will just sail by. Fortunately, I had a long runway to handle it.
I was ready to maiden by SM F-16 last Sunday but my preferred place to do such a maiden (county airport) now has a sign out front stating “No remote controlled aircraft flying allowed.†So I had to turn around and make the 1hr and 20 min drive back home. I was in no mood to fly.
Hopefully I’ll get the chance to maiden it this weekend…somewhere else of course.
I currently have my CG set at 155mm from the LE of the wing at the wing root. I know many, you included, have stated to set the CG even further back (165-170mm) but I’m thinking 155mm might be a good starting point and I’ll work back from there if need be.
Mine turned out to be a little heavier than expected. I’m at about 21.75 lbs dry. With my 16oz hopper tank, I should come in around 26.4lbs fully fueled and ready for take-off. That puts me at right around a .83:1 thrust to weight ratio (standard day conditions) with my P80SE. Hmmm….I wonder if anybody has flown this plane with a 30lbs engine. DOH!

I base the 6-8 week estimate on the fact that, in my recent experience (including a replacment canopy/frame that I received just yesterday) on 4 separate occasions, it took 6-8+ weeks to actually receive the replacement parts (regardless of what was promised by the factory).

Jim

Hi Mike:

Sorry to hear about your closed airport for RC jets

If you are going to try 155 mm as a starting point, be careful at the begining of the flight with fuel tanks full because she has a tucking nose tendency. So fly close to you and high to have time to recover. With the P80, fly at 1/2 throttle while you know her flying behavior.

Once she burn a lot of fuel (2-3 minutes) this problem is gone.

MIne is around 30 lbs fueled so my thrist to weight ratio is lower than yours and she flies very well. Maybe my landing speed is faster than yours because my jet is heavier.

So, good luck with your maiden.

Did you ordered those parts directly to the factory or through a dealer?
My experience has been so much better dealing with John and Anton directly. It takes a couple of days between emails, but it is acceptable.

Well, I decided to post last night in the Jet Cat direct support forum, a question to Jet Cat about the dent that the LG made to my P-80, but I dont know where Matt is.

No answer until now, so I decided to post the link to get any ideas from you guys.

Here is the link

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9790863/tm.htm

Any help will be appreciated as my new wing set has now 2 weeks after my order was placed. There are still two weeks more remaining (in theory) for my wings to be ready for shipment, so I want to know if my turbine needs to be send to jet Cat to be repaired or if I can fix this dent locally or if this dent do not affect turbine operatioin.

Guillo, not a model turbine expert by any means, but have you tried running it? Chances are if it is running fine then the dent does not affect performance. It may however affect heat distribution around the casing which could lead to uneven wear and tear somewhere else.

Yes David, I started it and it ran at least at minimum speed.

I didn't full throttle because I started it in my hobby room with the exhaust pointing to the window early in the night and my wife was close around to tell me watch about neighbors....

It ran OK.

A friend of mine told me that he disasembled a P-120 and at the dent area, there is a hollow underneath the shell just for air passing through and as the dent is at the end of the shell, maybe it do not disrupt ar stream.

Lets wait for Matt to chime
Well, Matt finally chimed in and he said that is better that Bob Wilcox see those pictures.

Jet Cat said that this was a pretty bad dent and they were concern about EGV alignment.

They suggested to send the turbine to them.

But finnaly I decided to take the can out and bang the dent out.

Then I reassembled the can again and now all is OK. Even there is no rubbing between turbine wheel and EGV.

Just need to do some tests and if all is OK, fine. If not, I will send it to Jet Cat.

Here are some pictures

Finally one question: Why my P-80 has only six inyectors? I have seen turbines with 12 injectors. Or 12 injectors are for a P-120 or P-160?
