To me that cam looks good, teeth not worn lobes look good. It does appear that it was ran sans enough lash, the base circle looks as if it was being rubbed pretty hard.

it needs a new cam, but that one lobe is not sO bad. one of the tappets was worn a good more than the other. so one lobe is worse than the other.

my my BTW, did you guys see that guy on RCG selling that NIB K&B 82 racing engine with 2 T-pipes for $65? what an engine. I wanted to buy it just to have and look at, but I won't.

The current replacement offering for the 100 has both lobes rounded like your exhaust lobe.

Nice plane and nice flight, I had a Cherokee 40 years ago, an ? ARF, it was almost too heavy for a Saito 50 GK.

The SpadPort is coming along, I sure do have wrong pilot for this plane. I improved the exhaust, it now has pipes, the end stacks go into the fuse to fasten it, it's not fastened yet, nor are the upper wing mounts.

Thanks Dave. The Saito 62 flys it nicely. Anything smaller and it would struggle as it is a fairly heavy plane.

Do you use magnetic building fixtures for framing your plane?

Yes sir, I had the complete Eldon J. Lind magnetic building board system. Several of the plastic pieces have broken from aging and getting brittle. I have replaced some of the verticle pieces with aluminum bars. At 30 plus years old it has served me well. My building bench is topped with two .125" steel plates laminated and screwed down to .75" plywood.

thanks guys!! Just bought a bfand new FG -61ts gas engine. Question: when putting in the 1oz of oil before initial break in start, do I lea e the gas line and screw on forever or just for the initial break in period?

There is a translation problem in the instructions. It says the inject 1 oz/30cc of oil in through the crankcase breather nipple, that's fine, but the nipple should never be plugged. Inject the oil and then rotate the engine while holding it in your hand in different ways while rotating the prop, this will distribute the oil to all internal parts of the engine. Then flip the prop to eject excess oil from the crankcase nipple and attach a piece of fuel line to the crankcase breather nipple before starting the engine. The prelube oil is only used before the first startup of the engine.

Lonnie, you missed out.

I only put in 1 flight on a trainer with a FA-45. It's been modified with a 50 cam and a few other parts. It runs sweet.

I did learn something when I was out flying. Never go out in the hot Texas sun flying wearing a black t-shirt. You probably already knew that since you lived in Texas at one time.

Gets hot here too, Pete, and usually with much higher humidity than Texas summers. I spent a lot of time outside when I lived there, racing mountain bikes and road bicycles. I learned real quick how to keep from heat stroking.......it was all about hydration and high tech riding gear. Cool max, Biotech and other special moisture wicking fabrics. Thing is, nothing helps when it's dead calm and you're standing still. Around here we just shed as many clothes as is legal and keep working.

Glad your pseudo 45 special turned out to be a runner.
