Are you saying that the fuel sloshes around in the wing of a B52? Haven't they added baffles?
If you're a B52 pilot I have lots to say about the F15's that sheppard you in at Fairford (UK). During the Iraq war last year one of your B52's was landing at Fairford (UK) and it had two F15's on it's wing tips to escort it in. Well our glider school is near fairford and one of our glider chaps was going up on the winch. When the B52 landed the F15 broke off right into the path of the Glider, the glider pilot couldn't do anything cause he was on the winch, but he said he could read the "DO NOT STAND" on the plane. 1 second later and he would have hit the F15 pilot, but we all laugh about it now, "He has a Great Polaroid of it"

I am sorry flying razrback......The fuel is transferred, If there were enough fuel left to transfer.....Well, it does not "slosh" around...Remember the fuel transfer switches???
I cannot see a senior officer fly with the pilot you describe....His A** would be flying T-37's at Randolph AFB......(Training)
As a senior officer retired, I would not permit a hotdog in my SQ.
The hotdog crap (especially with the boss on board) is not allowed.....I suspect if the ole man was on board he (the pilot in question) was getting an operation evaluation.
The decision was not the senior officer to fly..This pilot was being evaluated.
Regardless, if you turn a "Buff" that is low and slow...with too much bank, power back...The wing quits flying. It crashed.
The pilots biggest mistake was retarding the power too low on downwind....He failed to accelerate in the turn...IMHO...Hard to second guess a model weighing 300 pounds and not having your A** in the cockpit.
Just my 2cents....Now you guys can pick it to death

The full scale b-52 crash was the result of a guy hot dogging it..but he was practicing for an airshow the following weekend. The senior ranking guy rode along because he wanted to and though it'd be fun. Thats from the director of the rotc program at my alma mater who was an instructor in the buff and was an eye witness to the crash and new everybody on board. col. scholander..maybe you know him. Interesting side note...that full scale b-52 came down on an admin center or something like that..but it was completely empty..everyone had gone outside to watch the practice...noone on the ground killed or injured...lucky.

Well, we get the privilged info on the crash, every year. The pilot flying the airplane was the chief of stan eval and knew his stuff. The guy flying along (monitoring/evaulating) with him was the OG/CC the day of practice and never said anything about the pilot going past the maximum of 30 degrees of bank for the airshow. He did not go along because he thought it would be fun. He went because the rest of the crew refused to fly with that pilot. He could have said something but didnt. The fuel in the B-52 can and will sling the lateral cg even with the baffles. The baffles stop fuel from going all the way to the end of the wing, but not the fuel sliding and holding at the end of the fuel tank when in a steep bank. If you would like I will pull out my T.O. and quote it for you. Plain and simple, the full size buff crashed because of a hot dog cowboy who did stupid stuff beyond the capabilities of the airplane. This is the same guy that crossed a ridge line at like 20' over 400kts with people on the ridgeline taking pictures and video of the buff flying over, a direct violation. Even when we flew low levels, it was 200', not 20'. Like I said we get briefs in crm every year on this one instance for the fact that just because someone is a LtCol or higher, dont let them try to kill you and dont keep your mouth shut if you are just at Lt.

I ran the video several times and hysteria overtook me each time. Even the other folks in the office thought the wreck was of entertainment value. Gomez Addams would have loved watching the video. Our club's monthly meeting includes a flying event of some type. I proposed best crash. First prize $1,000.00 and second prize $10.00. Or small rockets attached to the wings and prisoners as moving targets on the field. I was the only one who thought they were good ideas. Obviously, the other 68 club members must have something wrong with them.

Thats pretty sad that an entire squadron refuses to fly with a guy so they just find someone who will instead of thinking, "hey maybe we should take a closer look at this guy". It's funny though how you'll see a guy like that go out and do stuff like that, and you know one day he's going to kill himself, but we sit idly by until he does. Then all the sudden we have CRM, which we wouldnt need if people would just use some common sense and do things the way they are supposed to.
