Will do on keeping you in the loop. Going to be sending it off soon to have it built. It was my only plane
in the air at the time. So now exactly 1 month later I finished my U Can Do .46 to fly. Just got back into
this fine sport/hobby so dont have much to fly, so when I crashed the US I had to get a ARF (I know bad
word) so I could get back into the air quick.
I am trying to think of trim schemes for the new US1000, kinda liked the beer theme on my old one...dunno
what I will do!

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
Alright, now that i have finished my ultra sport, i will show you! I haven't flown it yet. It's an original 40 size with os .46 AX, futaba 7CHP radio, digital servos, and gp mech retracts. also equipped with flaperons since i have seen many recommend flaps. Covering is done in Monokote.

Very nice! In the kit building forum there is a thread that asks if you would buy another
US60 size if GP re released it. We are trying to get a number of people to say they would
so RCKen can send a link to GP.

I like it, I am saving suggestions in a file to decide from once RCKen gets to that
point. Will be sending it off shortly after the first of the year hopefully.

Here is a couple of pictures of my US 1000. ST 3250 with 16x 10 3-blade Master Airscrew. This is my first US and it flies like it is on rails.

SD,
The performance is unbeleiveable. With the weight being around the same as that of the ST3000 the plane balances well. Ever since I had seen the original "build" in RCM, quite some time ago, I have wanted to build one. The only problem is it will not slow down when it comes in for a landing. I think this is from the pitch on the 3-bladed prop (16-10). I did plan on going with an 18-8 and I had built extended gear but later decided to go with the standard gear and the 3-blade. Any news on you US1000 build?

This is my main US60 that took 10 years to build. I got a wing and a half done at Christmas 1994 and then finally completed it in 2003. Life gets in the way sometimes. it originally had retracts but I'm building a second wing with fixed gear and flaps. it's got an OS .61FX in it and I'm thinking of stretching the second fuselage to put in a .91FX. These are pictures of the original wing trim scheme. Solid purple on the bottom with 4" diameter yellow and pink circles across the span. Very good contrast in loops and rolls and spins

I've been happy with it overall (other than the durability of the retracts) and I did manage some fin/rudder trim as well. Looking forward to playing with the flaps and having the higher ground clearance of the fixed gear wing (with longer struts). Heck, I'm looking forward to SPRING at this point 8^)

coreman, if longer struts are the reason you're going to fixed gear, you can make the retract struts longer by moving the retracts out by 1 bay. I have done this on all 4 of my US-40s with very good sucess.
In fact I'm in the process of installing the retracts in my latest one. I try to remember to take pics tonight

On my US 40, I cut about 6" off the inboard side of the ailerons for flaps... They work so well you can practically walk next to it.
That plane is currently being flown by my brother in Florida. I'm going there in 3 weeks and I'll have to shoot some video so you guys can see how slowly it flies with flaps.

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
Here's what I'm doing for flaps. They are flush with the underside of the wing and forward of the ailerons so when they are retracted I still have full strip ailerons. The size is a 6"x12" sheet of ply cut on an angle equal the TE. The servos are embedded in the wing with small access hatches. No strip aileron linkage or servos in the center section. I'm just in the process of covering and have done the inner flap surfaces and hinges. The original retract wing stands next to it showing the circle details I mentioned earlier. I'll duplicate this pattern on the new one since it has worked so well.

It will be interesting to see how effective they are. It seems like they would generate a LOT of drag being the "Split" type.
BTW, I lose absolutely zero noticeable aileron effectiveness with my method.

I've got 4 servos in the new wing so I'm planning on using something like "crow" from my gliders to see how it works out. The nice thing about the 8103 is I can do all the mixes for elevator compensation and another I use is to double the rudder rate when the flaps are deployed so I have added authority and the plane stays rock solid at lower speeds. I'll report back on my efforts come March/April when our field clears up

Was there any success with Great Planes to get a limited run of Ultra Sports?
Has anyone ever though of scaling down the plans for a park flier? Kinda like the mini sportster.

RE: Lets see your ULTRA SPORTS !!!!!!!!!!!
We had a pretty good conversation about this in the Kit Building forum.

Right now Great Planes has said that they will consider it, but they won't commit any further than that. All I can say is add your comments to the thread I have listed above because the guy I spoke to at Great Planes told me that they are watching that thread with interest to see how many people are interested in a new production run of the Ultra Sport.
