RE: Jet Speed Event - Day two
Thx Michel, you are welcome , of course and hope to see you here in the next edition of our event..
Another idea that is being discussed here is to create 3 categories of jet flying in the next events: speed, aerobatics and scale. The speed event would be judged by the gps or any other device and
the aerobatics and scale would be voted by the pilots of all categories.
Saludos, Enrique

Enrique,
Neat stuff.... Thanks for sharing and, Keep us posted!
I'll second that one Eddie! If you CA desert boys can put something together I would throw together a speed plane for the event... Sounds like fun!

Woj,
Are you sure your kingcat is 36 dry? Mine is 40lbs with all fuel, and my mueller smoke tank full (I use that center tank for fuel, longer flight time around 15 -17 minutes). I never weighed it dry as all I cared about was take off power to weight.
Even in difference from one scale to another, that sounds a little off to me. Bob Covish's is 40 lbs with fuel and he uses smoke in the center tank.

yea, im sure ... it was weighed .. if i take the BVM spec weith with a p120 ( supposed to be under 30lbs dry ) , and account for:
- at400 weight
- smoke system weight
- 3 NiMh battery packs ( 2700mah)
- JetTech ceterline tank
- cockpit kit with blue box pilot
- some lead in the tail ( like 6oz)
- extra glue, reinforcemts, etc ...
and the weight total makes sense ...
then there is the fuel load on top of that, and i can carry up to 64 OZ of smoke fluid. Well over 40 when wet .. I can push a 12 min flight, and thats with a lot of full throttle use .. cruising around i could see 17+ on my KC ... it does not feel heavy flying at all however ..

RE: Jet Speed Event - Day two
Yep, 421 mph.... or at least that was displayed as the max speed on the gps on the third and last
flight, wich won the competition against the Perereca.... that was 678 km/h or 188 m/s that was
a vast improvement over flights number 1 and 2 at 470 Km/h.
Well, this is what happened: Manoel was leading the competion on sunday at 519 Km/h taking off with 1 liter of fuel and vastly improving his speed, but a AMT pegasus with that little fuel didn´t stay
running for much time, and after 2 minutes of dives, he landed dead stick. so today, when we decided who would be the first to flight, seemed logical that i would try to beat this speed, so he wouldn´t risk his airframe.. so then i went, but with some mods... I taked off with 1.75 liters instead of almost 4 liters of
fuel and this time, unlike flight 1 and 2 I used 100% throttle at 100% time... happily, the airframe
resisted the stress and the dives where good.. so when the timer ticked 3 minutes I chopped down the throttle and prepared to land, but the engine quited.... but i was lucky and managed
to land (in a pretty ugly fashion) at the runway, but with the plane in still one piece. When the
speed reading was divulged by the event staff, I couldn´t believed on it!!!! seemed unreal, but the good part of it is that it surpassed the perereca record reading in may!
Right after that, Manoel taked off, again only with a liter of fuel and started the dives, but I don´t
know what happened because the plane didn´t seem to going that fast... and reached only 434 Km/h.. what seemed to me is that the plane wasn´t acelerating in the dive, like it was "locked"
in a constant speed... and after about 2 minutes of flying, the turbine stopped while the plane was quite near the runway, and there was not a chance to throw the plane at any possible corner
of our field, but Manoel managed to make a 180 turn, and land out of the runway but without damage....
I am quite tired of the party, the event and the adrenaline, but I cant´t still managed to sleep!!!

RE: Jet Speed Event - Day two
It was quite a moment... Patake (the builder) was crying like a baby and when I asked him what
happened he said: nah, that´s too much sun in the eyes! Joao also was speechless, he couldn´t
believed at first that our team project won the race..
meanwhile Manoel´s brother, bored with all this started to play with fireworks at the CD table....
more to come.....

RE: Jet Speed Event - Day two
congratulations on the win.
But I still this the GPS made a glitch with the 678 km/h
The 460-470 km/h seem right on spot.
Gaining an extra 200 km/h would require so much more power when thinking of how much wind resistance extra the plane has at thet speed

RE: Jet Speed Event - Day two
Thanks Sonnich, and yes, you could be right it could be only a glitch, but if it was,it fortunately happened in the fastest by far visual impression of all flights.... and I think that is just a matter of time for people around the world start making planes similar to the SHS and they would of course measure it´s speed by gps or perhaps by a different method while making those dives, and If this 400 mph numbers start to pop around, then we are going to know if it was real or just a glitch.. I am used to fly quite fast jets, like the roo´s , HS, etc.. but this plane with this turbine impressed me at the deepest of my soul.. I still have not words to describe the feel of
flying this plane at 100/100 !
Wojtek, if this speed numbers are quite right, perhaps we discovered one of the fastest motorsports in the world and by far the safest! looks that it has a lot of potential and fun for us all....
Thx Red12... our place is really nice... (and today it looks nicer than ever to me!
Thx Joe Mcbride very much, I think that as almost as important as using 100% throttle 100% the time, the lighter airplane managed to climb at at faster speed and entering the dive faster, so more speed was builded each lap... it was almost unreal to see!
