KMP B-25?

RE: KMP B-25?
I just purchased and picked my B-25 from Matt yesterday. Boy talk about just off the truck, I must have got there just after they unloaded them. After looking very seriously at the components I must sat that I am impressed with the quality of workmanship and the fit of all the parts, MAN! now this is a serious bird! It is a work of art is about all I can say, I see a massive amount of potential for scaling this plane out. Now I just need to finish my present projects so I can start on it. From what I can see it should be a very easy build as well as enjoyable. I will keep the you all informed and if you want pics of the components or have questions let me know I'll try to post pics that cover areas of curiosity.

The black widow is sitting in the living room yet.
Been working on a new Corsair and an old AT-6 texan that I damaged last summer.
Most of the P-61 is done.
I've been eyeing dynamic balsa's ziroli (1/7 scale) interior kit.
It's seems like it could be put into the 1/9 scale but 175 bucks is a lot of bread but if it fits,
it sure looks like it would be sweet (http://www.dbalsa.com/).

HA ha, guess what I got today, it wasn't the two Hobbico TwinStars I ordered in Dec. because I was just told by Tower that the whole shipment was returned to the factory because the hardware packs were omitted. Somebody please splane THAT to me.
Two big boxes on my door step this afternoon contained my new KMP B-25, wow, it's big, 83 1/2" span.
Nicely painted, every things green except for the bottom of the fuse and nacelles which are grey. The tops of the vert fins, rudders and the front of the cowls are yellow.
All the window frames are painted, complete set of air retracts are included with wire struts and wheels.
I'm undecided as to what will power it yet, just put together my first areobatic "electric" plane and there is a guy in the electric forum who is powering a giant scale OV 10 Bronco with "MOTORS".

Carlos,
When did you place your order with KMP? I'm trying to figure out how far down the list I am.
Idigbo,
It's been a few weeks since your last post, have you come across any new problems? Got any more pics?

I worked at home today so I would be here when the B-25 arrived.
It arrived at 6 pm and only one box: the other went to another city and fedex said I would get it tomorrow.
(same problem as when the P-61 came in: one box in, the other a week later and the retracts delivered to a neighbor).
First picture:
As it arrived in box one.
Second picture:
Everything out of the box.
The fuse is fiberglass.
Third picture:
Hard foam wheels.
In case you want to get replacements, they measure 2 7/8" and 3 3/4".
Usual hardware stuff. The control horns are colored: nice so they match the plane.
The tanks are 8 oz (maybe 10). No label so I'm guessing.
Fourth picture:
Cowls with an OS FX .91 next to it for comparison.
The head will be sticking out the bottom but not by too much.

First picture:
Retracts appear sturdy and no slop noticed.
Looks like 3/16" diameter.
Will have to buy struts unless they're in the other box.
I plan on putting at least a medium robart air tank in, or if not enough room, 2 or 3 small ones.
Second picture:
Six canopies.
Already painted.
Third picture:
Nose retract area.
Fourth picture:
Nose retract with cover removed.

RE: KMP B-25?
I have one coming from someone who bought it and cannot keep it. I should have it in about a week since it is in transit to him now. I was thinking that since there are so many being put into service, that we should start "build" thread that everyone can place their input as far as building.
I talked to KMP yesterday, and was told that they should have more in around the first of May, for those who missed out on this run.
samparfit,
Thanks for posting those pics. I was going nuts wondering what the kit really looked like. So far, I sure like what I see. I really like the fact that the exhaust blisters are separate from the cowl, make it easier to do an earlier model. Looks like it has the correct flat air intakes above the cowl as well instead of the post war square intakes. Just a little "Sand" colored paint and it could have a nice North Africa scheme.

RE: KMP B-25?
Fed-ex came today with my B-25 Now it's on the rack in my shop next to my VQ P-61. Nice, but not as NICE as the VQ P-61. When I have time I will post photos of it as I work on it. Powering with AXI 4120-18 motors.

Gettin off the beatin track till I get edited, some years back when the Clinton administraition closed the Alameda Navel Air Station in San Francisco bay. I took a drizzily Friday off to video tape the half dozen B-25's coming in for the closing ceremony on the week end. It was a grey day with light rain when they arrived (1 /12 hr late), I got all the landings, all six taxied wright to the gate I was standing beside. They all taxied past me in single file, I filmed all of them, up close, and when the parked I got close ups of all the nose art, engines, gun positions including a guy in a top turret turning the hand cranks and rotating the turret.
I was watching the tape one evening with a friend with the volume turned way up (engines). Afterwords we went out to my shop for coffee and to talk planes, you know whats coming...
The next day I set the VCR to record Wing's and recorded over the once in a lifetime footage of the bombers, I cannot describe the degree of disgust I was experiencing.
Pull the tab, pull the tab, pull the tab...

Local HS called me to tell me mine was in. I am out of town till Saturday so I will have to wait till then. They had ordered two of them and a friend at my field got the other one, looking forward to doing low passes together. Going to do struts and gear doors for sure can hardly wait to start.

The profile looks pretty scale.
Just checked my fedex and they say it's on the truck so I should get the other box today.
I may start a build thread.
Since Jan 1, I've been building 4 arf's and repairing a damaged plane from last summer.
Some may wish I'd first finish my present two threads (p-61 and Corsair doors)!
With 5 planes in the 'works', I've just been jumping around and doing work on each
so I haven't always been doing a project that's got a thread opened.
sorry about that.

RE: KMP B-25?
Sam,
from what you see so far, how does construction look? Are we talking hot glue on the formers, stout fiberglassing, dependable hardware (clevises). The wheels seem rather small, would larger fit in the nacelles? I'll be interested to see what you think of the manual - when it shows up. The build thread would be great so I could 'cheat' off yours when mine shows up sometime in the future. Great pics by the way - thanks.

RE: KMP B-25?
To All,
Sorry I don't have pics posted yet, I went to use my digital camera and found that it had been dropped so now I must replace it. As to the construction question, I have found no evidence of any hot glue, mostly epoxy with microballons and CA. I could not see any bad joints and all the covered structures seem to be sound and secure. (read as no voids or skins not glued to ribs etc.) the fuse, cowls and nacelles are all fiberglass construction and the level of detail that has been molded in is excellent. It will be a while before I start my build on this as I have 2 projects in front of it. I am presently debating with myself as to what to power it with. I was originally going to use a pair of OS Ultimate .70's because of their low profile but they will still stick out the side of the cowls by about 15-18 mm. So now I am asking myself about the RCV 91-S engines (the ones where the cylinder and prop shaft are 1 piece and with the 2:1 reduction) the advantage is a completely cowled engine spinning scale 16x10 3 blade props. My concern, as I have no experience with these engines, is cooling and reliability. The OS Ultimate .70s that I have purr like a well oiled sewing machine and don't even hesitate on transision to full power. Are there any thoughts on the RCV 91-S's out there?
