RE: Ace 1/3 scale Weeks Special help needed
Hi, Bob. Your working on the hard part, trying to fit everything in to the fuselage. I put the ignition behind the engine, in front of the firewall, the ignition battery is on top of the reciever battery, and both are on a plate as far back in the tail as I could reach. I also have a smoke system in mine so an extra tank had to be mounted in there, the room in that fuselage gets real small, fast! That is why I took the time to cut a hatch in the front. My first Weeks taught me that. The picture shows the location of the switches, and the throttle servo mount. The choke servo is on the other side.

Had I built this one from scratch/or the kit, I would have planded for equipment and things a lot better. But as I said this one was built and covered, and from what I have discovered if he would have left/or had notes to what he planed it would be a lot easyer. That said I don't want to do any more of a hack and wack on the fuse than I have to.
I think I can put in some anchor blocks and then screw every thing to them,so I can do what ever maintance I have to. thought about smoke system but that will have to be another project.

Do what I have done on some of my ignition set-ups, Bob. Fashion a 1/16th ply plate to put the ignition on that will fit beside your stand-offs, use plastic ties to hold it to the stand-offs. Haven't lost one off yet, I love plastic ties. I have done the same with servos, build a plate, attach the servo to that, then strap it on with the ties. Like I said I'm a firm believer, and I haven't had any problems.

Hi, Bob. The reason I have always mounted the ignition on the outside of the fire wall, was the fear of it causing problems with the radio. I assume you have been doing this before? Now, I hope you don't think I'm critizing you, I'm not. It it works for you and has been working for you, great! I haven't asked, but I assume you mounted the rudder and elevator servos in the tail? My first Weeks had the elevator and rudder servos in the fuselage, using push rods, so I had very little room to work. That is why the tanks were such a pain to do anything with. Things are looking good though.

Yup both elevator servos ara in the tail ounre the stab but the rudder servo is right under the lower wing bolt down points set up for pull/pull, have to study this a bit I like the pull/pull but not the servo location so may move it aft as far as my hands will let me. still looking a side wall mounting my reciver and tech I have a 20 oz tank the wii fit right over the C/G but will have to add some kind of holder

The ply platform that I made for the ign/module, just would not work in front of the fire wall due to the orignal builders firewall extension (see side view pic)back a few posts, and did not want to do any more surgery on the front end. So went on the side wall aft of the fire wall (see pic)also back a post or 2, so now that the holidays are over and I am back to work have just been doing some odds and ends, did test out polycrlick on the covering and it seams to have worked fine, next I started fitting the cowl F/G (orig builder had built up a wood/balsa one with fire wall mounting) vary heavy , and the F/G was not intended to go that way so I have developed a 1/4 sholder and at the moment I am considering a 3 bolt/screw mount hold down, to sone to tell just have to see how the cowl pulls in. will post some pic's later

Hey, Bob. Got the celibrations over, now it's time for fun! Not much you could do as I can see. I don't understand why your engine seems to be mounted so far back. The original plans, used balsa as the cowl material, it also used a cowl ring inside of the cowl, to mount the cowl to the fire wall with 2 6-32 bolts through the engine cooling holes, and 2 on the bottom, so there is no screws visible on the outside of the cowl. The original balsa cowl, weighed next to nothing, it was actually lighter than the Fiberglass one I replaced it with, and the FG one I have mounted now. I can almost remember the measurement from the firewall to the back of the spinner, 6 7/8" or 7 1/8. I was going to send another picture, but forgot the reply button.

As you can see, Bob. No screws. That may be why you do not have room inside the cowl. The only difference it will make is when you start balancing it. If you look under the plane you can see the template I used to build the cowl ring.

Hey, Bob. I painted mine black only because I like to think it might save the wood from a fuel soaking if I was to have a fuel leak. Actually the only place a fuel leak is not wanted is the one where you start filling the tank, and it runs and runs, and suddenly you realize the fuel is running out the tail!! LOL!! Wasn't funny at the time!

Yes I do like to protect the wood have all ways used a thined out coating of finishing epoxy th whole fire wall fwd and inside to aft of the tank just have not picked up on a coler as yet I think for in side the fuse I will go with white but the out side is up for grabs, but not a big deal.
What type of fuel dot /filler have you been using ?? In my first Weeks I had a du-bro and only replaced the O rings once in 18 years and I can go that way but was thinking of new technolagy??
I don't have the written instruction any longer , so by chance do yo still know what the eecomended throws were.
will be out of town for a day aor 2 looking to pick up another v- kick-al

Bob,
I don't know when/where I bought those fuel dots, I have had them, it seems forever. I went through all of the suppliers I usually go to and didn't find any that looked like the ones I have. The closeset to what I have are at Don' Hobby Shop.
As far as throws, I don't use dual rates, don't even set them up. I prefer to call them crash switches, because every time I used them, I would forget wether they were on or off, and piled up a couple planes, so I gave up on them. Consequently, I discovered Expontial, and set every plane up with that in. When I first tried Expo, I was using a Futaba Super 7 and I got spooked. Now I'm using a Futaba 9C and wouldn't fly with out it. It's like having dual rates without having to worry about a switch.
My Weeks, has about 1 1/2" on the ailerons, 30% Expo. Elevators have 2 1/2" on the elevator, 70% Expo. The rudder has all it can get, with about 40% Expo, to dampen the reaction on landings.

Well scheduling at work did me a favor I have a 3 day w/e in the middle of the week so will try to some progress made
Dale how did you attach your cowl ? after installing air baffles for engine cooling I don't have a straight shot to the upper corners ware cowp mounts should go to holw in place and shape.
So have been with 3 tiney #2 screws till I find an good method to attach .
Got thr pull/pull set up for the rudder done ( crimped sleves and covered with heavy heat shrink.)
Next I will try to get the loose items in the fuse anchord down to a final position so I can do a balance check have not decided on wheel pants as yetso will have to make up my mind vary sone.
Pic's Later
