Now i really do not like having control horns hanging out when ever i can avoid it with out to much work.
So here is how im gonna do it.
Big stiff joiner wire for the elevators.
On the rudder i'll do it like TF does but mine will be pull/pull. Just have to figure out how to fit it in there.

And now here are some shots to show where it sits so far.
With the fuse to this point. The wings,wing servo's,elevators,rudder,flaps,ailerons,engine(G62 ),fire wall. The weight is right at 18 pounds.
So far with initial testing the thing is NOSE heavy and im almost afraid im going to need tail weight. I did set the engine in the front of the fuse with the elevators, rudder put on,,,SOOO maybe i might end up not needing any extra ballast to balance [8D] Fingers crossed anyway.

Ok Camara was not working right,BUT now its fixed YEAH!!! So here is the Good,Bad,Ugly
Here is how i ended up doing the tail linkage. It's all hidden and works great. The plans have the rudder setup as pull/pull and i just could not live with that. Also the elevators had duel control horns and rod's,Could not live with that either. The joiner wire and rudder wire are 3/8 music wire. Plunty strong!!. On the rudder the copper piece is soldered to the wire. I notched the rudder wire where it slid into the copper piece in a few places so once the solder cooled it is locked in place. I made a mock up of this set up and tried twisting in a vice. Have no fear it WILL hold. The elevator control horn is welded on also.

Now the front strut. I could not bring my self to pay $250 for the scale one and it's almost all covered by the wheel pant anyway.
So i have a Robart 1/2in oleo with a 3 1/2in tire that i have to figure out how to mount. Where there is a will there is a way right?

Sense i did not want to make actual opening doors or drill holes in the spar i had to make a hatch in the top to get to the wing bolts.
Kinda rough but it will work great and look fine

Here is where im mounting the Elevator/Rudder servos. I chose big ol Hitec 1/4scale servos. Plenty of tork and that move kinda slow. Should help allot with smooth flight. Sometimes i believe a fast servo makes a plane jerky looking when in flight.

The Horner wing tips are just a big PITA to sand up. So i only have one almost done.
In all the pics everything looks pretty rough but actually it's not bad at all. 99% of the joints are smooth and im causing more of the dents/dings my self. I have always said "I'm harder on my planes in the garage then anyplace else".

Ok lets talk corrugations These are probably the hardest part and one of the most necessary things for a Cessna 182.
Wendel shows on the plans to use 1/16 square balsa for them. Square corrugations are not gonna work!!
I think there is a better way but what?
I have the stuff TopFlite uses for there 182. I think it would work better but it looks a little small for this size of plane and im not sure i have enough,,But i could get more if i need it..
Also im Monokoting mine so what ever way i finally decide upon they will be under the covering. .
Here is a pic showing the corrugations. Might help out some.

Good to have you back, I really like the way you built this model, Thanks for sharing that with us.
I think you passed the hardest part of the job, but the flap's with the 1/16 squares balsa looks to me an important touch for scale looking.

Hey Adel:
Im thinking of building a BIG cub next winter but im not positive yet. The corrugations on the Flaps,Ailerons,Elevators are a prominent feature and they just have to be on there,,But they are the most tedious part for me to do and there are so many of them!!! At least the end is in sight and should be done in about a month im hoping The last 2 week's of so i really have not got much done as i find my self staring at it wondering what to do next. I guess in reality it's getting close to being finished. Im waiting for a few small parts to arrive from tower hobby that is holding me up a little,,But im going to work on the strut today so might have more pics tonight.

i am very impressed from your work.you are a great modeller.This what i noticed is that is some topics you say '' i will do that and it will look fine'' and really at the end looks and works fine.This means to me experience and passion for what you are doing.Keep up the good work.How long time needs this model to be finished starting from zero?Thank you for sharing your project with us

Hey Cessna 182: Glad to see your watching to[8D]
Believe me im no expert! I find after building about 8 TF kits that if something does not look right just add a block and sand to shape Check the date on my first post and that is about when i started. Around Christmas if i remember right.

Anyway after spending time at home depot and looking at everything and not finding anything this is what i came up with.
I was walking down the hallway of my house and i noticed a little swiffer thing my wife HAD. HMMM looks about the right size. Well after not thinking about it for a second it was in my shop getting cut up and sure enough it was a perfect fit. Im sure there is a better way to mount this front strut but i could not figure out a better way.
The mount will be epoxied and screwed to the firewall. Should be plunty strong and removable if i mess it up.

Here is the weight. After adding up everything not on the scale now the weight will be about 28lbs.
this is also the first time the wings have actually been bolted on and good to say everything lines up nicely
The hatch is great and will make maintenance and assembly/tear down easy.

Also the build is moving a little slow now. Sanding is close to being done. The little fiddly bits are kinda holding me up. It takes time to figure out how to do stuff. The last real thinking i need to do is the linkage for the flaps. I could do it like TF does so the linkage is hidden or i could take the easy way and just use a control horn on the out side HMMMM. OHHH and the corrugations are gonna take some time. Not looking forward to doing them.

Does anyone know where to get some 1in streamline tubing for the wing struts. About 28in long????. Sea Commander has it but there not taking orders until july and i cant wait that long.
K&S only has up to 3/4in and thats a little to small.

Well have not gotten much done but the cowl and that took some work!!!!
The plans show the cowl sliding over the fuse. I just do not like that on any plane not designed that way so i had to change it.
The cowl nose ring measures 8in from the firewall. When i cut the cowl to get the 8in i discovered it left about 1/8in gap the whole way around the fuse with no easy way to fix it. Sooo after taking a few days trying to figure out how not to order a new $50 FG cowl this is what i did.
I moved the nose ring back so it is 7-7/8in from the firewall. That left about a 3/32in gap around the fuse. Then i scarfed some 3/32in balsa around the fuse and sanded it as close as i could to the fuse couture,After that i speckled it and sanded it.
Its a nice flush fit now for the most part and just needs some finish sanding. Thank goodness for covering as it would sure look like cr^^ otherwise.

Also at the moment i measure the COG at 5 1/4in back from the leading edge. So far the balance is a little nose heavy with out the rudder/elevator's. So i suspect it will take very little nose weight to balance.
I still need to mount a throttle servo up front and mount the battery pack up there also Looking good for balance!!
The little fairings that cover up the mount points will come last. Looking good for weight!!
Now that i can see the light at the end of the tunnel im starting to get exited about getting her done[8D]

So here is what i have been up to. Not much really,but all that is left is some finish sanding on the fuse then i can cover it. After that i spose i need to work on getting the cowl,Wheel pants mounted,painted. Then make the little fairings for the struts/gear. Then fly it and after that do up an interior.
Does not sound like much but this small tedious stuff takes time. Forgot, add more corrugations to the Ailerons/Flaps. Man the list seems endless!!
Although not to bad for about 2 1/2 months work

what type of henges these fixed to the rudder, and are they strong enough for this size ?
