RE: The Tiger Tails????
Thanks guys!
I'll try to post more as I get further along. Went with the Kraft engine and really looking forward to the maiden. Thanks toCrankpin for the opportunity to nab the TT III.

Can you build from the plans from Scratchbuilderswarehouse.com? I know the name of the website should answer that, but I was not sure if the plans were from the kit versions or the original Chidgey design plans. I would love to build a Bobcat. My dad build built one waaaayyy back it died on one of the first flights, if not the first due to radio failure. I would like to build him another using modern stuff.

Nice work on the TT Hook. I have not decided to go rear exhaust or side exhaust. In reality a hot side exhaust with tuned muffler will probably do just fine and be A LOT less work.

A few more pic's of the TT 4S, lot of planking on the top fuselage, the rear part will be sheeted with 1/8" sheeting. I'm also using the MK linkage for split elevators using 1 servo. Stab. sheeting. Well, tried to upload Pic's , would not work!!!!!!!!!!!! will try later. finally

Brain, the answer is depends on which one your building, I have an original wood T.T. kit the answer is no planking, the TT4 is a large plane and planking is a way to keep the weight down, yes this is the recommended way according to Ron C. to do the front of the fuselage, easy to go around compound curves. Its a very quick way to sheet the fuselage.but a lot of sanding. Pete

RE: The Tiger Tails????
She's looking good Pete, the canopy really tells the Tail!
Okay, I need somd advice; contemplating the servo install in the fuse and was going to go 1/8 ply with servo cut-outs (I've never done a balsa/carbon ply, is it fairly simple?). I don't want to do the old rail method, mainly because of the geometry of the pushrods. Also, thoughts on doing a pull-pull rudder versus single push-rod? I've never done a pull-pull set up and the Tails are somewhat tight back there. Planning on using Futaba S3152 digitals on the surfaces and micros on throttle and retracts (Rhoms). One more thing, thoughts on glassing the wing and tail versus film covering? She's fairly light, I'm not running the pipetunnel so that's a few oz's saved there too. I think she would withstand the minor bumps and bruises better glassed than withfilm though. Should be ready for cover by mid-Feb and might try to take her to AL in April. In any case she will be at Rusty's contest ready to rock! Thanks in advance guys.

Hook, using fiberglass on the wing and tail is definitely make's it more durable you don't have to re-due it!. as far as the carbon/balsa servo plates I have done it a few times I use thin CA and sandwich them let dry and cut out. it works great very light. Please post more pic's when you can. I hope to see you in April, have back surgery the 18th of Jan. so it will be a few months recovering, will have my Atlanta 60 there. Cheers, Pete

RE: The Tiger Tails????
Hook, first let me say I'm no expert with Composite materials, I went to the Composite section thats found here on RCU and got a lot of info and asked a few questions. great info in that section. I use 3/32 balsa and composite mat I got from a local frend and used thin ca and saturated the mat and balsa, with the mat on both sides of the balsa building it up with as many layers as I thought I needed @ least 2. I did 3 hope this helps. Pete

Pete,
I think you might mean mat. Otherwise, someone might go and saturate with CA a fellow from down under!
David.

I though the same right off David LOL, good one! I get the idea though, and thanks Pete, I was searching the forums and found some usefil stuff there. Still, any one have any thoughts on whether a pull-pull rudder set-up is better than the single push-rod set up on a TT or similar plane? Also, I have 16oz Kraft tank ready but am thinking the Sully 14oz is plenty and keeps the initial wgt down a bit. Any thoughts on the pull-pull and 16 vs 14oz?

Hook, I think the 14oz will be plenty, as far as the pull-pull on the rudder, here my thoughts ( and you know everybody has one!!) I use 2 servos, 1 on the rudder and one for steering,I can get just as much throw using one servo that way rather than using the Pull-pull system just program them, and can control the steering throw also. I will use 2 servos on the elevators( split elevators) or I might use one servo and use a Mechanical linkage like the one I'm using on the TT4S MK linkage from central hobbies, Down side loss the elevator servo your in deep DODO!! I'm sure there are others that can chime in and give there thoughts. Pete PS: That is MAT!! LoL

Makes sense Pete, I'll go 14 oz on the tank, using one carbon fiber elevator push-rod with the fork for split elevators, and I'm going to seriously considerthe dual servo set-up now for the rudder/steering (I agree with your rudder throw statement too). Thanks Pete.

Tim I have the 4S and the plans, the engine compartment is larger than the TT4 the 4S was designed around the 4 Stroke engine. I'm using the hyde mount and there is plenty of room. I can pull the plans out and give you the measurements if you like. Pete

Do you know if it's just the F-1 former or all of them that is larger?
I cut the F-1 (or wrongly cut it) at the line where it looks like balsa is at the bottom so I must remake these so the gear mount will fit. I thought it went only to some balsa at the bottom. So I figure if I have to recut them I might use the TT4S F-1 firewall if that's the only thing that changed.
Thanks for the response.

My plans show it a bit larger so I wonder what the differences are. Odd...
One of the guys started his build that has built one before and said the lower portion that says 'balsa?' on F-1 should actually go all the way down to the bottom of the plane. In the profile view this is evident because it looks like the nose gear block is attached to the bottom of F-1. Was you kit cut like this or the shorter version?
Thanks, Tim
