My concerns on mounting the DLE motor to fiberglass or carbon are it would transmit the vibration to the fiber and stress cracks in it. Would it be better to mount to plywood over the glass/ carbon to reduce the possible cracking? This kind of stuff is not covered in the manuals. Oh and let me add, my DLE-30 s run very well and the DLE-55 all have performed very well. Anyone looking for a Fugi 50 motor?

I got this motor in a 30cc size ESM Fiberglass Corsair. I mount it right to the fiberglass firewall, I will use thin 1in fender washers to help spreed the load.

This 55 is smoth, it dose not shake my Corsair any more than my well broken in DLE30 dose on my Fiberglass BF109 CMP war bird.

this motor is really wakeing up, I just got 7200rpm on the Morpower 20X10 3 blade prop, up 200rpm over first flight with no change of the needles.

Well Im useing a very heavy scale 3 blade carbon prop, vs a nice light Xora 2 prop, But with that said, it has very smoth and quick spool up with this prop,

I broke it in on the stand with a 22X8 and from my work turning this motor with this small prop it rev nicer and faster than my BME50 I stole the prop from.

Im going to try to find this time this week, I just got a new to me / used DLE55, Im going to try it with the same prop that Im with the same scale 3 blade prop, Im hopeing to put this motor and prop in my Top Flite Gaint P47.

But from what I read, 2-300 more rpm over old DLE55 And I think this motor is smother so I would say yes.

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with the stock exhaust. I placed the new DLE 55 RA on a 1/3 scale Bucker Jungmann and after the second 5 minute flight one of the exhaust tubes broke off. It looks like it is not welded, but fusion powder coated on. I found comparable aluminum tubing for a lawn chair and had it weldedon with a support bracket. I flew it two more times and now the flange which holds the exhaust in place broke completly broke off. Same, no weld, fusion coated. The engine showed no signs of unbalanced prop or spinner and no significant vibration. Did I just get a muffler built on a Friday or Monday before or after a holiday? This is beginning to suck! The engine sounds and runs great but this exhaust problem is getting to me. I have spent an extra $100 just to keep repairing the damn thing. Does J'TEC exhaust fit this engine?

Too bad they didn't set it up so that the side-exhaust muffler would bolt on, but the bolt spacing is different.

I broke 2 mufflers on my NGH 35cc like that, What I did was get longer bolts, but a plate on the back that way the bolts are holding pressure on more than one part it has worked very well.

I also have about 40 flights now on my and no issues.

I just had that same problem today when I came in for landing it wouldn't slow down I thought the bolts just came loose but when I took out the cowling I had the same exact issue
Im calling Troy built models and dle support line tomorrow

Hey Rxrc, I also bought mine from Troybuilt Models and they were great. I was planning to fly in an event the week after this happened and hustled to get it repaired or replaced. I ended up doing both! I had the flange welded back on and it was tough because of the thin metal that is used and it cost me $60. There are no parts for this engine yet. TBM was great. The contacted DLE to have a new exhaust shipped which would of taken time so they took one out of an engine for sale and shipped it to me in two days! I was estatic! I did inspect that new exhaust and it is put together cheap. I will have the same problems sooner or later. The flip side is that this engine runs GREAT! I did fly that weekend (in wind from hell)( thanks Sandy) and all went well.

Hey Rxrc, I figured out who you are. You have the Hangar 9 P-47 right?!?! I fly at Markham park every now and then. Contact Sunny and he can guide you where to go. He has a contact who works on full scale aircraft and welds aluminum. Sunny called me yesterday and told me you had the same problem. I flew my Bucker last weekend and everything is still in one piece and holding. I believe if you just put on the new muffler you will have the same problem sooner or later. Have it beefed up before you put it on. Good luck and see you at the field.

Sam, I have not done anything yet to the new one other than inspect it. Once again you can see where it will fall apart as nothing is welded but powder fused together. And this time there are still gaps not completely sealed. Any vibration will loosen the joints. My old one is holding up so far. It seems every time I have a day off the weather or wind decides not too! I am hoping to get a few more flights in during the wounded warrior event and will then re-inspect. I will let you know. I am going to wait awhile (if I can) before modifying the new muffler. I want to see if any after market companies decide to make one for this engine. To modify the stock muffler cost just as much and there is no guarantee it will hold up. It is easier to modify before all the pieces fall off!

Lifer, I agree. It would make things a lot easier and readily on the market. I just hope DLE realizes these mufflers are not up to par and changes them for the better and not try to skimp on a buck! The engine runs great and I hope they can make the muffler work too.

Between the loud tone, the different bolt pattern, and flimsy construction, it seems that there is a built-in premium on this engine. Many will have to buy an after-market muffler.

I just bought a DLE-55RA , and I , thank you guys , for the heads up , with the mufler problem . I,ll have mine beefed up , by a radiater specialest , there use to repairing cheap stufff .

Yes! my buddy was flying his TF P-40 Sunday when it happend to him. I had just told him about this problem no more then an hour before his flight. I told him that I had heard about this muffler issue from (Lifer) that morning and to beware. I believe he thinks I put the cure on him. because it happend just after I told him about the problem. And his muffler looks just like the photos up above this message. He had no more then 10 flights on that engine when it happend.

I was going to buy a 55RA until I realized that the muffler bolt pattern was different that the side exhaust version. I had planned on bolting the side-exhaust muffler onto the back of the RA. The RA muffler looks like a cobbled together after-thought. An exhaust diverter, at best. One reason for buying the RA was to avoid buying a $130 after-market muffler. Now it looks like a premium priced 55 that needs even more $ spent to make it usable.

For those that have failed, save the flange and have someone build a muffler around it.

UPDATE!!!!
I am in contact now with a muffler company, discussing the issues with the DLE-55RA. They are willing to make a aftermarket muffler for the DLE-55. Will keep you all posted.

This is the first I am hearing of this issue, and I am the lead technician on this e-mail box. I will definitely pass this info on for investigation purposes, but to be honest, those people are probably just getting excessive vibration and that is what is causing the mufflers to break. I read in that forum that people were saying they weren't getting vibration, which they wouldn't while it is on the ground idling, but once it is in the air it is a whole other story.
