<2 days to finish a BVM Sabre...will it be done????

RE: <5 days to finish a BVM Sabre...will it be done????
OK, check the inventory, declare the manifest....that cockpit and carry on will be interesting to say the least...you've got to send pix back from your hotel's WiFi of your working on them during the crossing. Be sure that you pack extra Flite-Metal in the crate with the fuselage and wing...I won't be there with rolls like I was at Top Gun for Steve and Ian. Its better to have some 12 inch in the crate and not need it than the alternative situation... Get'r Done!

RE: <5 days to finish a BVM Sabre...will it be done????
Thanks Ed! I will be sure to pack the extra FM I have. I hope I don't need it, I can always help someone else who may be in need too. This thing is looking great in my eyes, I hope the judges agree. I am leaving the metal a little dirty, not mirror polished like I initially planned. It's still polished but by keeping a little grit and grime on it makes it look more like my documentation. Either way it looks very shiny in the sun. Off to prime the center stripe, then spray it white later tonight.
BTW I am using a self etching primer, the SEM brand. Another talented modeler recommended I try it for priming the aluminum for paint. it's working well so far, we'll see how it holds up in actual abuse.

The etching primer was a good move though not necessary as we are not going to be using this for gardening or needing it to weather through a sand storm ;^) The paint will grip better with the primer and its not pain to apply. I have recommended the etching primer to guys who are usng Flite-Metal under a completely painted scheme.
Do you have a WiFi notebook to take with you? That and a digital camera will go a long way to keep RCU updated on how my Flite-Metal is doing in competition :^)
Just kidding, Flite-Metal is nothing without the skills and patience of our talented customers.

Ed, between our group, (especially John Christensen) RCU will be kept up to date as to how we are doing. I have to admit that the look Flite Metal gives is very hard to beat, and if I can use it, anyone with some patience can quickly pick up the technique. I can't wait to do my next plane, but it will be a dirty old war plane.... It will be awhile for my next project, this trip has me nearing the burn out phase for scale modeling, too much, too fast, (six months from start to finish, with a few months away from it for my last semester of school). Plus I have some big life changes comming up after I return from Hungary.
Back to the paint shop!! Just a few more trips needed!

I know the pic is horrible, I used a camera phone. Tomorrow I will unmask the last of the major stuff. Time to add some of the little paint details with the old airbrush. Hopefully the paint will be dry when I put it in the case Thursday! I plane to take a few pics tomorrw night or thursday morning of it all together. I think I will meet my goal of having everything done with the exception of wing tanks and a cockpit. Still a long list of things to do... back to work.

It's done! I am now finishing the box....It's gonna be a loooong night.
More tomorrow night after the drop off.
Scott, FYI I lost no range switching to 35 MHZ using the Ant. I told you about.
Oh yeah, the front hatch will eventually be worked to look like the rest, it needs to be "dirtied" up a bit more.

Here is a photo of David Ribbe's Mig and my F-86 at the shipper.... (He's just a little guy....)
As you can see I may be a little over protective of my new toy. The foam cost more than the box. If anyone wants to build a box I suggest getting an air powered stapler. Works great and fast. The wood was less than 100 bucks!
Basically my box is a box in a box. The sides are used to carry all of the necessary start up equip. and some basic repair tools. Only half of the storage was used. I even have my full size airplane craddle in there.
P.S. Always remember your vertical fin, never close up the box with out it!
I may be the most worried person on the planet, I can't wait to get to Hungary to survey the damage!

I could have fit my Mig in the open space in Dustin's crate!!!
The mig is a nice tight pack in the jet case.
It is HARD to leave them with strangers!
Can't wait to be reunited in Hungary!

Sorta funny, I noticed the "He$$ No" part of my poll has increased since this morning. People the plane has flown and been shipped.... I don't know how it all came together, but it did. I will be adding details up till the time it gets judged, so the majority was correct. Any scale competitior should be adding or refining detail up until the judges see it.
Thank you all for your support of our team. Hopefully we get the vote to have the WJM in the USA in 2007.

Hah!
The targets for forklifts are not that far off...
In -99 in Austria or in -01 in Pattaya, I believe it was Gustavo Campanas crate, that had a hole from such in one side!!!
BR,
Jussi

My pleasure Dustin.
Just a note, my site does not allow linking directly to videos (or pics) due to bandwidth issues. The above link will take you to the site's main page. Just click "Videos" and you'll find the video of Dustin's F-86 near the top of the list.
Good luck to all at the WJM!

I just watched the video. The smile on Dustin's face as he collapsed the antenna said it all.
Gotta get me one of these...
And I hafta agree with you Dustin on the look of the Flite Metal. Extremely realistic in the video.

Great job Dustin!!!! Let us all know how everything goes in Hungary! I am hoping we have the next WJM at Ozark Mountain Jet Rally. I think some people dont really understand what it takes to really "scale" out a jet until they attempt to do one themselves. Best of luck my friend!

Check this out, "Jim" has been practicing in his simulator for a few weeks. Just a few more days till he gets to fly it for real!

I now have my camera and laptop working, so I plan to post video at the WJM if we can find high speed internet.

Scott,
I had him biased to one side, he only has "Normal" servo travel. If you put it on a mix/separate channel, you could have more motion. But we all know that Big Sabres use up 10 channels in a hurry! (Too bad you need two channels to run that PIGesus, [X(]) I will have the pilot Y'ed into the rudder, so ill have 90% travel if I remember my TX program correctly.
Check out www.ScaleAirCrewSupplies.co.uk for more info. I have one of his flyers, ill let you take a look at the catalog on the airline. They have some pretty neat stuff!
Dosen't Metal Kote have a sweet smell??
