for the fun factor and the involvement involved, electric will never beat nitro, owning a nitro is like an artform ...

but for the people who are not inclined towards nitro for any reason (mess, excessive noise, tuning, etc) then yeah, electrics are getting better and better everyday and if they suddenly own a car that is categorically better than nitro in every way on a track , they didnt mean for it to be that way usually...

Hmmm...I very intentionally set my electric XXXT up to be better. It didn't just suddenly happen and trust me I meant for it to be fast.

Remember we're just talking about power source here. The real challenge of any car be it nitro or electric is setup and handling. Now that is what keeps you involved. It's amazing the difference small adjustments to the suspension, chassis, shock oil, etc can make.

its also amazing how well the nitro engine suddenly performs when a cold spell just swept through your local club and you run it with the mixture slightly rich

Nice thing about electrics, you don't have to wait for a cold spell.

colder air is denser, hence just by being cold the air is already making your engine run leaner in a way... thats why you richen it , to compensate for it... thats what i read on threads on rcu anyway

but yeah youve gotta worry about the working temps too, on one hand you squeeze more performance out of the engine this way , on the other hand the operating temperature is wrong and the engine wears out faster... or something...

Electric or nitro? I like both, but for different reasons. I am an engine person, so the nitro holds the internal-combustion fascination, and I like electric vehicles because of the quiet and the freedom to run where nitro may not be easily accepted. I believe that both are fun.

Actually, I would trade them both for just one turbine....

I think they are both fun....but for me latley I have been using my electric way more. The new brushless craze bit me and once i install my new system in my XXXT im sure that will mean even less attention to the RC10GT.....o well....Im still open minded towards both nad i think both are fun.
The technology in electric is really leaving nitro in the dust I think though

Heres and idea choose one and then get the other and have the best of both worlds.. thats what i did,,, my opinion doesn't matter form your own.. get a losi electric buggy and a hyper 8 and call it a day.. i own 6 vehicles and if i could do it all over id just have those 2.. one thing is that no matter what i dont see to many people quit this hobby sometimes it just takes a back seat to something else but always comes back so get a good radio, electronics and tools the cars come and go but those things seem to stay (esc,chargers,ect..). BTW id start with electric because while your at the track racing you will get some much needed insight to rc cars in general.. and also you will prob want a nitro after seeing them all there...but that way you establish your chargers radios tools ect that way when you get a nitro there wont be such a large investment...

When someone can show me a 3.95 hp electric motor that can dish out 38,500 rpm and is half the size of a pop can please let me know.

I'm talking about the LRP Z.28R Spec. 3 ($150), I'm getting one for my Losi Muggy.

Sometimes nitro can burn you or fumigate you [:'(] but can seriously bust your ankle too.

my xxx-4 is much faster than my hyper 8 on the most all tracks speed isn't the issue.. 1/8th scales are really tough though.. the slightest thing and the xxx-4 is broken... i think we all like the mechanical aspects of rc cars so you have to respect a nitro vehicle... to have a combustible engine that small that makes so much power and thats reliable.. then again nitro is my most recent vehicle and i cant seem to get enough all i want to do is hang at the rc track.... when i run my xxx-4 it isn't as fun.

The moon? Wow, that sure makes a difference. All this time I have been hoping my crawler would operate on the moon.

Maybe if had a tank of compressed air feed into the carburetor you could drive it on the moon, no maybe not. YOUR FUEL/AIR MIXTURE WOULD GET SUCKED OUT THE EXHAUST BY THE VACUUM OF SPACE BEFORE IT COULD IGNITE. Besides if your tank of compressed air somehow ignited... BOOM BABY! With enough mods you could drive on the moon, everything that carried fuel or air would need to be stronger to keep from leaking or exploding. Metal fuel tubing, metal fuel tank with screw-on cap ETC. (you'd need rear-exhaust or it would be like a rocket and propel the car in the opposite direction of the escaping nitro fumes).

Due to the weak gravitational pull you could get some serious air on the moon though, you'd need paddle tires because the moon's surface is dusty and like a fine sand.

I'd say electric is the way to go for driving on the moon.

Jeez you could break the RC car speed record, your car would weigh a quarter of it's normal weight and have no wind resistance.

If you jumped too high your car might not come back.

I'd sh*t my space suit if my RC18T flew of the moon and hit the earth as an asteroid.
Very informative post^ Did you know that a 40$ electric nikko from walmart could run on the moon?

There's beginning to be some 1/8th scale electric conversions available. They're a bit pricey now but they easily run with the nitros. Of course there's not a class for them but it's coming. The toughness of an 1/8th scale with electric power and reliability is appealing.

LOL, since when did you see a screaming two stroke in a real car? I think nitros are more like real cars than electrics, but still not that much like what you'd drive to work in.
