It took me a while to realize that the boat was upside down[&:]

Bob,

Thanks but it's NOT a drag cat. It's one of Dana Wilsons DaVette shallow V's and it's NOT going to run 70 even if Dave Marles set's it up

I'll be tickled if it runs 50.

Paul's drag cat is ALOT faster than this. Also the engine is not a QD but a SIKK 27. Your drag cat is probably one the hottest non-purpose driven boats around

BUT Bob ... I am extremely flattered anyone would mix up one of my little projects with one of PPB's boats. That is one heck of a compliment

As far as the wing goes, it's more for looks. I doubt it will improve performance, but the angle of attack is adjustable just in case

Paul, sorry it took so long to get back to you as I've been really busy with the new job.

I get 50+mph running the Prather 270 on my dragboat. (Balanced and sharpened only.) You can go 275 or even 280 but have someone like Chris cut the prop down to stay around 2.5-2.65", and shave a lot of that meat off!!!!

I'm running 6.2hp at 16.6K with 5.9hp in 18K over-rev. So I've got a little hp on you.

My point being, try to find the dia, your boat likes then start increasing the pitch. For your motor, it might like a 2.4" dia. or 2.35 dia. with 4, 5, or even 6" pitch.

Unfortunately its a trial by error type of analysis but thats what its all about anyway right?

Pick yourself up a tach and garmin gps, both around $50 each, and start charting.

Pick up a few Prather props like the ones I've mentioned and have Chris work his magic on them. Keep them in your box. They are invaluable!

Next, start looking at the Octura equivalents in dia. and buy a few with different pitches. (Octura has some GREAT one's!!!!!) Chart! It's just like planes: small prop + high pitch = more speed. (To the point of diminishing returns)

Question for you: I've seen many boats where they tie a knot in the pull cord at the Zen starter. I even picked a boat up that was already done like that. I noticed your pull-start has that knot.

Why?

Thanks!

Artie.

Ps. Dana I can't wait to see some results from the runner! Should be a flier!!!!

With the handle sitting on the body of the pullstarter (like they come) will not clear the cowl on some boats, like my stryker hydro. Putting the knot in it lets it sit down in the hull allowing the cowl to go right on, without having to fight the handle to get it on.

Artie,

The pull start is as it was when I got the engine from Shawn. so, I am not sure. Was going to the lake today to see how she would go with my x472, but my daughter had other plans for us. Spent the afternoon playing volleyball instead. Hopfully I can make it late in the afternoon tomorrow. The lake should be very calm then. Dana gave me some suggestions on set up so I am hoping for some better numbers.

Is yours the same boat or is it smaller? Mine is 47 inches not including drive etc.. Are you running a Zen?

I've got some SWEET decals on the way.

Won't be testing a whole lot, the boat will be getting a new home soon. I've got my eye on another project

Not the next project (Thunderbolt)or the next project (Deaver Drag hydro scratch build) but the next project, maybe a QD 35 in a runner bottom for a little closer to scale HP. The real Red Alert has 2400 HP.

Hey guys. Well put the decals on today. I really am pleased. Jimmy off the dock([email protected]) did the decals. Very reasonable and fast service. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Yes. I have test run it twice. Runs about 40 with a x472 but i am sure i probably don't have it trimmed properly. See the previous post for the decal guys email. No website. He does a great job.

Thanks guys.
