Well after going a few rounds with the retract doors, (I thought they were going to kick my butt)... I finally think I have them, I'm working on securing my nose weight needed for balancing at the moment, hope to post more photos soon.

Yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with gear doors. I love how they look but hate to install them. I love it when they work, but hate the reattachment time if the gear ever fails. 60 hours to install, 0.6 seconds to uninstall! We must be nuts!!!!!

Well I have the air system complete, pressurized the system to 100 psi and it has been stable for over a couple of hours now with no apparent leaks
Well I must say cycling the doors and gear is very cool... I have to do it manually, I thought I had a sequencer but it turned out to be the wrong type...[>:]
I sure hope Todd at Dreamworks has one in stock when I call him tomorrow

Rich,
Nice work!! what valves are you using? I am planning to use UP3 and UP2 (without seqencer) for LG and Doors on the Camo version Rafale.
To keep things simple, have installed one UP3 valve which activates LG and all doors using 1 mini servo, sequence is automatic although not scale... Very practical solution...

Hello Extra 300, please look at the 7th photo in post 48, I am using the stock supplied valves, except I had to replace the (Gold) two port valve with a (Blue) three port valve.
I ordered a RC Bee sequencer from Todd at Dreamworks this morning on line, I received a confirmation that it has shipped already...Thanks Todd!

Here are some of the gear door install photos.
The first few are the fuselage as received before cutting out the opening all of the way.
I had to make wooden wedge pieces for all of the front door hinges.
On the main doors I was able to position the hing on the outside and drill the location holes, this doesn't work for the front doors where the fuselage curves around.

The next set of photos are of my battery install, I ended up using two 4000 mAh NiMh six cell battery packs to get the balance correct.
As shown in previous posts I made an integrated battery tray with my steering servo mount.
The first battery is held to the tray with a Velcro strap, the second battery is held to the first battery with the Velcro strap through the second wood tray.
There is a Velcro strap on the second tray to hold the second battery.
To stabilize the battery assembly I fabricated a wooden clamp that screwed to a block that is epoxied to the fuselage.

The next set of photos are of the equipment tray and graphics
To create a professional looking tray graphic I use a graphic program and AutoCAD.
First using AutoCAD I drew the tray to scale, then I created the parts that were to be placed on the tray.
After that the graphics can be positioned.
once everything is placed and verified create an inverse of the graphic, the inverse image is needed to be printed.
I use clear overhead projector film.
Once the graphic is printed turn over any spray paint the back of the film white, the back of the film is where the imprint will be, when you look through the graphic you will see the image in the correct orientation.
Once the paint is dry you can cut out to fit the tray, using 3m 77 spray adhesive coat the back of the film and then apply to the equipment tray.

Rich,
I guess that with both batteries in the nose, you will end up nose heavy with difficulty to rotate.
In my setup, i have installed 2 li-ion batteries before the nose cone, and the jetcat stock battery is located under the equipment tray. The only additional item(s) installed in fro section are 2 x fromeco regulators and TJ smoke pump.
Fyi, my nose cone remained empty as i have installed a loaded base whip antenna pointing forward inside fuse to avoid the ugly whip antenna...

Mine balances perfectly at 130 mm back from the Leading edge as the factory recommended, is yours set up differently?
I used a balancing fixture to make sure it was exact.

Rich,
If i am not wrong, it should be at 145mm and not as per FB recommandation. Also note that after few flights, i find that i can move back CG a few more mm. Anyway i will double check and let you know.
I have installed CF rod at CG balancing point, i can plug the wings and lift jet with a rope, very practical and efficient!!
Reverting..

Dany

Thanks Dany,
I would appreciate the double check of the CG, 15 mm is quite a bit of difference!
I do know if I exchange one of the NiMh batteries with a 4000 mHa 2 cell LiPo it balances perfectly at 140 mm from the LE.
If you find that it is 145 mm back I will have to drill another set of holes in my fixture

Last night I decided to make a hold down bracket for my LiPo battery so I could interchange it with the top NiMh battery, with the LiPo and NiMh combination in the nose it balances dead on at 140 mm back from the LE.
I balance with gear down and full ordinance installed.
I then removed the two big drop tanks and rebalanced with no change in results.
So now I can have two choices of CG by switching one of my batteries.

Yes I will take that into account; however the UAT is biased back twords the CG where I don't think it will make much of a difference.
Good news I just came home for lunch and my new sequencer from Todd at Dreamworks was in the mail box....I guess I know what I'll be doing tonight!

Hi @ll,
i follow the thread since yesterday because i am a Rafale owner too. I am from Germany and there some ppl have a Feibao Rafale but they dont make a build thread. I have got the sport version and will put a G-Booster G130+ into it. The GB130+ have 140N thrust. Is this enough when i use the FB stock pipe?
If anyone interested i have got the documentation from Feibao to link the rudder scale like. :-)
@Rich: Have you still flown your baby? What burner u have installed and what thrust it have?
Sorry for my ugly english
Cheers,
Udo

Hello Udo, No problem with the English...I work with Germans all of the time
Your G boster will be more than enough power at 31 Lbs of thrust and the stock pipe is more than sufficient for the job.
I plan on flying mine with a Jet Central Falcon which has 22 lbs of thrust (98 N), if needed I can install my Jet Central Super Eagle with 30 Lbs of thrust
The plan is to fly it next week...
