Because calibrating a mechine to 1 HP can have different forces on it, ie, 1 HP is not always 1 HP, depending how the tester wants it configured , mm, depending on what product they want to sell, where as 1 Nm will always be, and cannot change because 1 Nm of force will always be 1 Nm of force no matter what machine its calibrated on.Using HP is not as scientificly sound as those above believe, for all the equasions they post, they fail to understand that companies are allowed by law to fiddle these figures based on there own , they DO NOT ALL USE THAT EQUASION AS A LAW, its flawed as a scientific means of true measurement, why do you think humans went over to the Nm Kw measuring system, maybe the get educated comment is in context here, because its a more scientificly accurate way to measure, end of story. Also for your question, electric motors are measured in HP and KW. I usually see them in HP here in the U.S.

Your argument here has no real chance, Yes companies can lie about there HP ratings. But what stops you from thinking that a company cant lie about Kw and Nm?????????? As robwjilas said, there just different units of measurmens.

FYI the Cen .46 on our dyno made about 1.4X HP (I'm just going off memory) and every measuring device can be "tricked" into reading high/low. And that's even if they have a device (in our case dyno).
You at some point have to trust something. Or maybe you're just at the age where you think everything is a scam and the world is a lie. And sometimes that is right, but there are sources of accurate information...and maybe even a little school to help you understand math, lol.
