RE: Giant U can Do: Motor choices?
I am also planing to buy a big UCD.
I really like the colour of that plane.
I own a Laser 240vee - its not possible to hide this beautifull engine under canopy but who cares.
Can anybody tell me the measures of the firewall, please ?
The engine mount of the Laser has a width of about 11 cm equals 4.4 inches.
Will it fit to the firewall of the big UCD ?
Weight about 1.4 kg equals 49 ounces (sorry do not know how to convert it to pounds)
Thanks for help.
Ulrich
(I have posted this question already at another thread but got no answer so far.)
Can somebody tell me the weight of the Giant U can Do ready for flight ?? What be very interesting !

This post on this thread shows the 40RE... identical install no physical differecnes other than lightening... .5 lbs
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=3191788
Looks like 12.5 doable easy... and with a little work... about 12 lbs...
40RE-F3A save 7 oz
Link ailerons/flaps into one for single servo setup... save 4 oz
1320 lipo for receiver/900 for ignition (ZDZ supports 2 cell lion/lipo without regulator on ignition) save 3 oz
CF spinner save 1 oa maybe
13 lbs 1 oz minus 15 oz = 12 lbs 2 oz...

BBRiBro's loadout:
ZDZ-40 RE with Bennett muffler
Hitec 5625s on elevators
Hitec 5945 on rudder
Hitec 635HBs on the ailerons and flaps.
2150 Nimh for receiver, 1100 Nicd for ignition
I saved a tiny bit of weight using carbon pushrods, might go with a carbon spinner too.
13lbs 1oz with included aluminum spinner.

NP... I've got one of these sitting in the box... and one of these days I'm gonna build it... the 40RE-F3A looks like a perfect engine for it... perfect fit, lotsa power...
I also have a Brillelli 36 coming... and while it has a slight carb to the side thing oging on... it too might be a really nice option...

I doubt it... and don't really know when I might do it anyway... I'm finishing up a couple other projects and will need ot take a break from building...
all building and no flying makes Jack a burn-out bad pilot...

RE: Giant U can Do: Motor choices?
My local hobby shop has a deal on the giant u-can-do, plane and ST-2300 for $345. Is this a good motor for 3-D, will it pull out from a hover?

RE: Giant U can Do: Motor choices?
The choice for the Giant UCD is simple DL 50cc gas. I've been flying with this engine combination for about 8 months now. The plane handles beautifully, still floats like a foamie. I've been flying for over 28 years and this plane and setup have to be the most fun ever. Including 50cc QQ Yaks, and Giles, etc.
You can hover it down on the deck with ease, waterfalls are a breeze, and doing Walls are addictive. This is a perfect marraige of plane and engine. The engine mounts with normal
gas engine stand offs. Fits pefectly on the front of the fire wall. The cowl needs a little bit of
trimming, mostly in the front to allow plenty of air intake.
I wil never be with out one of these combinations.
Attached are some pictures I took out at the field a while back. If anyone has any questions
about this setup contact me anytime.

RE: Giant U can Do: Motor choices?
Here is an adendum to my previous post above. Looks like the picture attachments did not make it into the note. I will try attaching them again.
With a 23 oz tank you can fly for almost an hour, a 15 oz would probably work fine. I also
purchased some longer landing gear from TNT landing gear sales.
Perfect setup
Giant UCD with DL 50 cc gas.
