"I HAD NOT BOUGHT ANYTHING FROM THEM THESE LAST FEW YEARS"

"AS TO HOW SHE DIDN'T CARE IF THEY LOST MY BUSINESS AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. "

I hope you can appreciate the irony of what you said.

My comments exactly!

If you haven't bought anything from them for the past several years, then you aren't a current customer. They have absolutely nothing to lose by taking you off of their mailing list. In fact, they save money by not sending you the mailer.

Also, there is no way you can know for certain that they would still make a profit by selling the item to you at the old sale price, or even 10-20% higher. For all any of us know, the $240.00 price was at a loss to dump the inventory of an item they weren't selling.

Well Bob

Tower Hobbies has ALWAYS been excellent with every transaction that I ever had.

When i had a problem its always been "Send it back, and meanwhile we are cross shipping you another". Even once on a kit that I didn't open the box to check the contents until 6 months had gone by. I noticed then that I was missing pieces. I called, "No problem, we will send you another one", was the response. No LHS can provide that kind of service. Most other internet hobby stores can't even match that service. And Towers prices are the lowest for most items.

One time I missied the sale date by 1 day . They honored the sale price. I was shocked that they did that because they had no reason to. I had missed the sale.

In your case, its been weeks.

It sounds to me like you missed out on the deal; made an attempt to get it; and failed. Now your upset.

You yourself even said: "I haven't bought anything from them in several years".

So explain to me again WHY they should sell you something for a sale price that has been over now for several weeks ?

In fact, if your LHS is such a good friend, he could probably get you the same deal. RIGHT ? ...and you would be all set. RIGHT ?

Lets be reasonable here. Tower is not the one to blame.

Its you.

And please turn off the caps !

I find it amusing that someone post an "I hate ...." message only to turn around and delete it once the rebuttal starts to fly.

Well here is work to date.

The 6oz sully tank is in.
Power switch in.
Hitec HS-81's all around.
To the nose wheel I added an adjustable horn on the servo because I did not like the manual's installation, plus this way its easier to adjust.

Howwwdy,

dont have the money now, but maybe later...looks like a good time and a good plane. Love the bonus of being able to convert to electric for Park Flying!!!

Default A-7 electric

This plane is no park flier. 5.5 lb plane at 75 MPH should never be flown as a park flier. It is a great flier. I'll have it at the Tucson Jet Rally this weekend.

You know...I messed up and forgot to paint mark the fan for taching purposes !!

5.5lb??? 75mph??? What kit did you get? Built out of the box with hitec HS81 servos mine weighs 4.2lbs. Max speed with stock motor/fan/pipe would estimate around 40 to 50 mph MAX.....

Mine weighs 4.5lbs with 1x Hitec 81 and 4x Ripmax SD200. Top speed approx 60mph (Down wind).

I think Bruff was talking about an electric converted A-7. Sounds pretty heavy though!

K&B 3.5

I have come across a K&B 3.5 DF engine. (Its in transit to me)

I was wondering if this .21 class DF would fit in the Fan unit of the Toki engine. It would make for a nice power boost (I would like to think).

Anyone know more about the 3.5 K&B DF ? Hp ? rpm ?

Default K&B 3.5

I will be surprised if the K&B 3.5 will fit the motor mount on the Toki Fan unit; also, I don't think it will turn the rpms of a car engine like the Toki .18. Some of the high-dollar car engines like the Rossi R21 are designed to turn 40,000 +. The K&B is much heavier and is bacically a 25,000 rpm engine. One of the Trinity Serio .15's might even be a better engine than the Toki .18; they are about $150 and will do almost 40,000 on a car.

Easytiger has already been down this road with one of the small car engines. He looked at all of the .21 sized engines and decided that there was no way to get it in the Toki fan without a complete rebuild of the stator/mount unit. He then tried one of the .15 sized engines and found he couldn't get above 20K RPM because the engine didn't have the torque to spin the fan. And, this engine was rated at 40K RPM.

Until someone comes out with a higher displacement engine in a .15/.18 sized case, I have a feeling the only way we're going to be able to get more performance will be start modifying the ports and head clearance of the HB .18 already in hand.

Good luck!

Default toki 18

I think you are correct John; however, I remember reading Easytiger's comments, and I'm not sure how complete his testing was. Many car engines are designed for either off- road or on-road. the off-road engines having more torque and a little less rpm. I could'nt tell from Easy's test as to whether he was really using a high performance( 5 port ACC) off-road engine or something less radical.

Somewhere, I have a article on how to improve or modify a .21 airplane combat engine for better performance. I remember one item was to sharpen the edges of the crankshaft intake volute.

ET posted the name of the engine he tried in this thread. I'm not a car guy, and really don't want to be so I don't know anything about the Fantom .15 he used.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...999#post370372

A search may produce some info into what it's intended use (on or off road).

I guess what I'm trying to say is, if there is enough meat in the existing HB .18 ports, we should be able to do a little bit of home machining to get more out of it. The only question then would be if it holds together

Question for the group.

I am almost done here. (finally !!)

Weather is improving. I hope we just got the last snow out of the way. Still breezy, but improving.

The question:

1. How did people route the antenna on the aircraft ?

I'm just looking for ideas.

One though I had was to run it parallel to the ducting and the inside fuselage and then have it exit where the wing ends and just let it dangle.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks

Nick

I routed it through the fuse like you suggested, except that I ran it completely inside the fuse. The size of the plane wont let you fly it too far off without it disappearing so radio range doesnt come into play....mileage may vary

I took the easy option and drilled a hole in the canopy and ran it right down one side and secured it to the tail with an elastic band.
