Really sad to see the decline of interest in RC Monster Trucks, especially as a long time enthusiast who got out of the hobby for financial reasons just before the introduction of all waterproof kits. Also since I'm planning on purchasing a Summit by the end of the month.

The popularity has dropped off quite a bit but the Summit is still one hell of a truck. If that's what interests you then you'll have a blast with it. It's one of those trucks that when you have it you never want to sell it, even if it sits on a shelf for a while, nothing beats getting out your Summit and kicking around with it for an afternoon.

4 years later, (but 2 year old picture) here is my Summit. Currently running Revo wheels and tires for better higher speed stability. Stock tires are sitting in a box somewhere, pungent with mold from having taken a swim 4 years ago ROFL. That and one of them got punctured from getting snagged on a twig.

Runs a Castle Neu 1518 1800kv motor with an Xerun 80A ESC, and depending on the status of my wallet and lipos, a 2s, or 4s setup. Will do standing wheelies, and back flips (well, remains on its back). I am running a ~300 in.oz hi torque metal gear digital servo. Some Hitec, forgot the name. Let's just say it puts the stock Traxxas dual servos to shame.

Runtime in mostly 1st gear and some 2nd gear with 4000mah battery is upward of 45 minutes. Can probably achieve 1+ hr of running if using 5000mah lipo. Need to get better pictures.

Yup I mentioned the upgrades in my post. Brushless motor and ESC, and running 2s 4000mAh lipo usually, sometimes 4s for speed.

The way the diff lock switch works is: OFF -> Front -> Front & Rear

You can swap the diff lock servo wires on the receiver and make it so it'll do OFF -> Rear -> Front&Rear if you prefer to lock up the rear diff first (though makes turning harder, of course). The system is built this way, and I'm not sure how you can control the front and rear diff independently without another radio system.

Yeah I'd say that's well beyond a Summit haha. Only downside is losing it to water/theft! But that's a pretty awesome rover!

This thing is unstoppable! Im new to the whole rc thing and was wondering if anyone has any tips they could share it would be great thanks.
SPCmakes two batteries Ihighly recommend for the Summit. They have a 8200 mAh and a 9200 mAh. A pair of either one will give you 2+ hours of run time in low gear.

I have a pair of the 8200s, and Iget 35-45 minutes of hard bashing time out of them in my Revo. I have yet to hit LVC with them in my Summit. Iusually end up getting bored or needing to leave before the batteries run down on me.

Kenny...this thread is as good as any for the Summit discussion, as far as I am concerned.

Summit..get rid of the balls and get the roof rack lights!

Can anyone recommend a good brushed motor upgrade? Anything available with bearings?

If no brushed upgrade is available, any affordable motors on ebay?
