ZDZ 80 or F.P.E. 5.8
I have a H-9 Sukhoi that needs a engine my choices are the following a ZDZ 80 or an FPE 5.8 the ZDZ is 1 and a half pound lighter than the FPE and revs 2000 rpms more.
I'm looking for regular acrobatic flying and probably some 3D
thanks

The FPE is also a full cubic inch bigger that the ZDZ. The FPE is actually 95cc. Which nearly puts it in the class with the big 100's. I say for a H9 bird get a ZDZ or BME. DA is good, but the ZDZ and BME will yeild a 2 pound lighter plane. That is really the only two engines for a H9 plane, period.

I had a friend that had a ZDZ 80 in his Sukhoi and with the pound of lead he had to add to the nose ,it was 27 pounds. Mine with a BME 100 is 26. I would go with the ZDZ also, but you will need some weight up front. He had no unnessisary weight in the plane. FPE engines run great I have a 3.2 that I am pleased with.

RE: ZDZ 80 or F.P.E. 5.8
My sukhoi with a GT-80 only weighed 26. It now weighs 24 lbs and 13oz with the DA-100. A buddy of mines weighs 23 with a BME 110. He has 6 oz of weight to balance but those will soon come off as he thinks it is too nose heavy. These sound like some heavy planes. Of course I have been hearing recently of up to 2 lbs variations between the sukhois and more than that between the late modle extras.

So I can assume is that the ZDZ80 has more torque than the FPE. The FPE weighs 1 and a half more than the ZDZ but I will probably will have to add about 9oz if I go with the ZDZ.
What about servos?
thanks for all the good info and help.

If he had to add any weight to that plane than he didn't arrange things properly. I have seen at least 3 H9 sukhois w zdz80s with out any added weight.

If you build the plane with pull pull rudder and arrange your components you wont have to add any weight w a zdz80. If you want to add nose weight then get a da100.

The zdz80 is a great engine for the sukhoi but we have two a hanger9 sukhoi and extra with the FPE 5.8 . They both balance with no added wt. As for as power I dont no how much if any differnts in the two. We have a zdz80 but we havent put it in anything yet.

Man my scales must be way off, with the weights you guys are getting. I have Cabon Gear and tube, no pants and holes drilled every and lithiums. But It was a digital fish scale. I hear they aren't very accurite. But according to my (off) scales I took right at two pounds off my plane. TBM website, good info
