What's the heaviest spinner you can safely put on a G62
Did a search and nothing really came up to apply to my needs. I have a G62 in my recently completed Byron Wedell Williams Racer. She needs noes weight to balance and I want to use a brass spinner that a friend turned for me. It turned out 2.25in long and weighs 22.3oz. I needed about 28oz to balance. I epoxied some birdshot inside the cowl rim to make up the difference.
Question is this too much weight on the front bearing? My friend made similar spinners for three other club members for their DLE 55's. Those spinners weighed 14 to 16 oz and have not damaged those engines. I'm planning on ground running the engine and check everything.
Any thoughts appreciated.

I don't think it's so much the weight of the spinner, as how well it's balanced. Anything, with that kind of diameter and weight that isn't balanced pretty well, will deffentely creat problems.

Take the engine apaft...Replace the front crank seal with a 6202 Double rubber seal bearing..More weight and more support for the crank...Works well, been there...I do this on the belt drive conversions...

Thanks for the feedback it's greatly appreciated.
The Wedell is what it is as the gas tank and the battery are on mounts behind the firewall. The servo's, Rx and regulator are all ideally located so there is nothing to move around. It boiled down to where to add weight and how much.
I like the idea of upgrading the front crank seal. Would you use Stainless Steel or Ceramic bearings?

Merry Christmas everyone.
Been going over everything regarding the CG. Will remove and shorten the Torque Tube the engine mounts on. It has two attachment points the firewall and the first former. The tube extends well aft of this and can easily be shortened. This is all behind the CG so it should help. Will rebalance and see where we're at. If we need the heavy spinner then I'll replace the front seal with a sealed SS bearing to better support the added weight. The prototype used the Purr Power mount and I believe it's shorter then the tube I used.

A spring starter would add a little weight if it doesn't already have one. We really need a picture of your plane!!

I have read thru the posts here and would make the follwing suggestion.
Put as much weight in the front of the cowl as you need distrubuted right behind the dummy motor.
Mine is in it's 8th year with no signs of cracking the cowling or the mounting brackets and that includes at least two nose overs on landing.
The cowl and mounting brackets are very tough despite only having four screws thru the cowl.
Balance it properly and go fly without any further worries about the weight carrying capabilities of your G-62 crankshaft.

We used to use the Harry Higley Heavy hubs on glow motors but I was always a little afraid of putting that much weight on the end of the crankshaft. I think I would build some kind of a bracket over the engine to hold some weight securely, myself.

How about something like these ...

Not as heavy as what you are looking for but effective. I had a similar heavy prop washer machined for my Yellow Aircraft Zero / 3MM53 combo. Works very well. My washer was heavier than the Whiterose products but I no longer remember its weight.
