Jamara Spitfire60 ARTF(+ retracts)!
I love the Spitfire…and who in their right mind does not? Anyone starting out in this addictive, sometimes frustrating, but ultimately very rewarding hobby misguidedly assume that a Spitfire is the way to go for their first model, usually with disastrous consequences?
At around £108 the Jamara Spitfire 60 ARTF offers a further step up the Spitfire ladder at a budget price! One drawback is that this model’s instruction booklet is predominantly in German although a basic additional instruction booklet is supplied English.
Here are the Jamara Spit 60’s basic details:
Wingspan …65 inches (1660mm).
Length……..49 inches (1250mm).
Wing area …45 sq. dm.
Weight …….74 ozs, (2100g) without motor and R.C.
4-5 channels.
Engine……...60 - .90 2/stroke or .80 –120 4/stroke approx.

RE: Jamara Spitfire60 ARTF
Opening the box reveals a well-packed and individually wrapped collection of main components. The colour scheme has thankfully put my earlier fears to rest, as the camouflage green scheme is not too bad at all.
All the main components are individually bagged. The covering is Oracover which is very neatly applied!

Provision is made to fit retracts but these are not supplied. A fixed under-cart wire is suppied however with the option of fitting retracts at a later date if desired!

The suppied pre-painted glassfibre cowl is of good quality. A nice touch is the supplied transparent cowl template for marking out before hacking away at the main cowl. It's a pity that more manufacturers don't supply these with their kits!

The ailerons, elevator and rudder hinges are installed but not glued or pinned ( if preferred) so you will need to do this yourself.

RE: Jamara Spitfire60 ARTF
this looks like the sportsman arf spit that hobby people sells. they have them on sale this month for $150.
englishmac- what covering is on this plane? is it available for repairs or if you make modifications to the plane? if i got this plane i would put spring sir retracts in it so might need some covering. then there is the possibility of damage for whatever reason.
have you flown this plane? if so how many flights? how does it fly?
do they show you where the wheel wels are? do the retracts go toward the fuse or away?
2100 grams is about 4.6 lb. nice and light i think.
are you associated with jamara, or just promoting a plane that you like?
thanks

The optional retracts covers are supplied if required together with a tail wheel and hard foam wheels which will be fine off tarmac or similar but not, imo, off soft grass!

RE: Jamara Spitfire60 ARTF
Hi,
Yes I believe it is identical to the Sportsman Aviation model. I also understand that model is actually supplied with the retracts already fitted for a modest additional cost!
The quoted weight is without motor and r.c gear.
I am actually building it at present!

The engine mount halves (black), wheel covers (blue), ply wing joiner (bottom) and servo mount.
The supplied screws, wheel colletts etc are good quality!

The instruction booklets are basic but do cover the fixed under-cart installation or the optional retracts if preferred.

RE: Jamara Spitfire60 ARTF
All the joints are well glued and fit accurately together.
One point of minor concrn for me is the firewall supports (arrowed) which do not run the full length of the fuz. sides. Imo, it would be prudent to reinforce this area with fibreglass or triangular stock for safety.
The substantial ply wing bolt plate will offer a secure wing fixing!

The supplied furry hinges will need to be aligned then cyano'd into place and pinned (optional) with cocktail sticks or similar, on the elevators, rudder and ailerons!

RE: Jamara Spitfire60 ARTF
If you do opt to pin your hinges one method is cocktail sticks. Merely make a pilot hole with a pin then drill a 1.5 - 2mm hole, insert the stick with a dab of cyano then cut off with a sharp blade. Don't forget to fuel proof the top of the sticks!

An internal shot of the rear fuselage. The wood is good quality and all the jointing is generally very good!

The aileron servo bays!
Again the wood is good quality and well assembled!
The string is for pulling through the aileron extension leads.

I've decided to go for a 4 stroke engine and have bought a new ASP .91 Mk3 which have so far received very good operating reports!

The covering is Oracover or Profilm as it's called here in the UK. It's no problem to buy spare rolls of this stuff which is available in most colours including silver grey and dark green etc. And you can always prime the surface and add your own colour mixes.
Fitting spring retracts should not present a problem with minor recovering afterwards.
With retracts and full gear plus my .91 4-stroke I estimate the all uip weight around 115 - 120 ozs.
I am not associated with Jamara. I am presently building this model for myself![8D]

This shot of the under-side of a wing half shows the pre-cut servo slot for fitting the optional retracts makes things that much easier!

Mark off a centre line on the ply wing joiner and trial fit into the wings but do not glue yet. Check that the joiner is inserted the correct way round!
