Default questiosn abotu tractions..

ok, well i understand that in a big car has more weight to gain traction, as well as if u empy the tired a lil it gets more traction. i know that if the tire has more air it bounces and dotn gets alot of grip but...

in rc cars how does it works? i mean the car it self dotn weight alot i went back form alloy to plastic cuz it weights less and i tho i would gain more speed but the car is like spinning more

so in rc cars shoudl u add alil weight or what? use bester tire or what? foam perhaps?

Yea, its a little hard to understand and he's Canadian!

I will try to answer anyway. These cars have a lot of traction, just scale down, yes they weigh less but out tires are better suited to race tracks and grass compared to full scale cars. Plus, certain car generate more traction because of suspension geometry and chassis material., it allows the car to flex more, thus giving more traction. Foam tires on carpet is probably when the most traction is given on a RC car, also if you were to use small pin tires on the street then you would also have alot of traction because of the pins being able to fit into the street. (Thats how I look at it)

im sorry.. my main language is Spanish i got confused in the translation i apologize..

does shocks (the spring) causes the car to affect the traction grip it takes?

yeah it makes a big difference if you want more rear traction take out some preload or get some softer springs for the rear. I had the same problem with my brushless rustler.

Preload does not have anything to do with traction. The springs and shock oil determine handling and traction. A softer spring and/or lighter shock oil will give you more traction.

Preload has a lot to do with traction. Don't believe me? Add 5mm of pre load and you will lose a lot of traction on that end.

No it does not add traction, it will change weight transfer but not traction.

Dude, weight transfer effects traction. Softer rear springs, more weight transfer to the rear, more rear traction. And don't go telling me about weight transfer, I use it for my hobbies way more than pretty much anyone else here, I do know of a few others that do what I do.

Neither of you first mentioned weight transfer. You said preload and thats it.

By simple phyics, weight does affect traction. The fomula involved is:

weight * coefficient of friction=force required to break the traction.

In laymen's terms:
Traction of course is the amount of force required to cause the wheels to slip on the road surface; thus losing the ability to steer and accelerate/decelerate. In cases when traction is lost, the coefficeint of friction approaches zero (I know, there is still some friction, but dynamic friction, especially in this case, is very very small to static friction).

For traction, you want more weight, particulaly of the rear wheels since the center of mass will shift more over the rear as the car/truck accelerates.

Now, if you want nimble cornering ablity to turn on a dime, you will want, in general, a lighter vehicle so that it does not have a very high moment of inertia when the vehicle is turning. Otherwise, it must fight against its own weight to turn, as well as acclereate and decelerate.

You are aware that was my first post in this topic, right? So, I mentioned weight transfer, and I haven't mentioned pre-load before this post. Tell me where I said pre-load, oh, I forgot, I didn't. I first mentioned weight transfer. You quoted my first post in this topic and the second and third words where weight, and transfer, with the first being dude.
