FEJ or Yellow Aircraft Jets F/A18's builds in Texas
Anyone currently building or repairing FEJ 14 or Yellow Aircraft F/A18 in the Houston, Texas or nearby area. I would like to learning more about building, flying and installing parts on these particular airframes. I know electrical/mechanical assembly, turbine, control surfaces and much more. I want to learn more on these aircraft frames because I am seeking to purchase one of these (Turbine, FEJ 14 or F-18 Hornet Jets). I am also a former U.S. Marine, and now retired. I am police officer in the Houston area and would like to use some of my free time to assistance someone currently building these airframes.

Thank you for moving my post to the turbine forum. My dad is a retired from the AF and a pilot that flew the C-5 A Galaxy. We were stationed many places, Dover AFB, Altus AFB and Germany. I graduated from Altus HS in Altus, Oklahoma and live on Altus AFB. I am really looking to help and learn from someone building their own FEJ F/A 18 or F14.

SAAAALUTE! man, Altus was almost 30 years ago for me

one thing I MUST point out RE your question, those two manufacturers in particular...
Stick with Yellow Aircraft.
I'm NOT a jet guy (at least I don't own a turbine at the moment) but I am well aware that FEJ has had some issues with inflight airframe failures and with customer service.
I'll leave it to the much more knowledgeable folks here to fill in any gaps.

What ever you do, stay away from FEJ airframes. Keep your hard earned dollars from going up in a ball of smoke.
All you have to do is search, either here or "the google" about FEJ jets.
You are much better off sticking with the yellow.
One question though, will this be your first turbine R/c airplane?

Hi,
There are several guys in Texas with extensive experience on the Y/A F-18. Regarding building, there's nothing whatsoever in common with the two as the FEJ is an "ARF" (quotation marks intended) whereas the Y/A is a kit. If you're patient and diligent, you can handle the F-18 no sweat as there's nothing super complicated--only a few things you might consider 'tedious.' It's a proven design and a proven flier and, if you follow instructions, you end up with a fantastic bird. Best of luck, and congrats on retirement from the Corps.

I have seen and read all the bad information on the FEJ airframes but I think that have gotten a bad rep. I do plan on purchasing a Yellow Aircraft F/A 18. I have want to advance to jets. My background is Jets in the real world. I a former U.S.MARINE having worked on F/A 18's and F-16's (Air Force) as Weapons Specialist. I am not retired from the military after serving 20 years of service and now, I am a police officer.

Thank you for the great information. I am very proud to have served 20 years in the best (The U.S. MARINES) I am looking forward to getting my hands on the F/A 18. I also heard there is a dealer in San Diego, CA. Yellow Aircraft Shawn Evans. Right? My wife is from Vista, California and we met while I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. I also miss MCRD San Diego as a Drill Instructor for 4 years.

I am he. Shaun Evans (the dealer/rep in San Diego). Do you get out here much? I occasionally fly at Pendleton still. Cool bunch of guys out there. Which squadrons were you attached to with the Hornets? Did you work on Falcons while a Marine or did you do some time in the AF? Post some pics!
Regarding FEJ, I'm not going to get into a whole big brouhaha, but if theirs is a case of just a bad rap, I'm not sure how. I've built several of their models for customers and I've never seen such remarkably poor design or craftsmanship in my life. That's not even getting into the subject of slimy, dishonest, unethical and irresponsible business practices. There are plenty of good ARF's out there, but unless you just like to tinker for tinkering's sake (and you are independently wealthy and don't mind putting thousands up in smoke) I would steer WAY clear. The guys over there don't have an honest bone between them, and really couldn't care less if you lose your investment once your transfer goes through.

In regards to the manufacture question, FEJ (or what I prefer to refer to it as Far East Junk) is in a category all it's own. No comparison at all, not even close, both with the deliverables and in communications/customer interaction. End of story!
I hope to God someone can edit the title of this thread cause it breaks my F'n heart to see FEJ associated with that fine company.

After talking with a few people including Shaun Evans in San Diego, I appreciate the Yellow Aircraft F/A 18 more. I spend many years of working on the F/A 18 in the Marines (VMFA 115 Beaufort, SC) and spent time in Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar/San Diego.
