removing the front hub on a DA50???
hi
i've got DA50 and while flying all the 4 prop bolts broke. i live in India and sending the engine to DA is very difficult. is there a way to remove the front hub?
if it's easy to remove the hub then i could just order a new one from DA and replace it myself. we have a metal workshop here so, finding any special tools shouldn't be a problem.
i did talk to DA and they said it was possible to remove the hub but the warrantee would then be void. i think that if i could do this myself, it would save a whole lot of hassle.
thanks

RE: removing the front hub on a DA50???
One thing might try is to get a small left hand drill bitt and drill the bolts, A lot of times the drill bit will back out the bolts because it is turning in the direction to remeove the bolts, If you can get two of them out you can use the DA prop drill jig to remove the hub. The center of the rill jig is threaded for a 1/4 20 bolt and can use it as a puller.

Drill the bolts with the correct drill bit and use a easy-out or similar tool.if you have access to a machine shop should be just a one beer job.i have done this twice and has work everytime.

RE: removing the front hub on a DA50???
To get back to the original question on how to remove the hub,
Take out the spark plug and turn the engine piston to bottom dead center, Stuff some small rope in the spark plug hole to stuff the cylinder, Take a deep well socket (I think it is 12-13 mm but ½†will work) turn the long hub bolt counter clock wise to take off, Now you need a piece of brash or aluminum that will fit down in the hub against the crank, Hold the prop hub and smack the end of crank with a hammer and the Brash or aluminum, This will keep you from doing damage to the threads on the crank, Now install new hub and tighten the long crank bolt clock wise and remove the rope stuffing and you are ready to go.

Impact gun and deep socket to remove the center bolt. Then a puller to remove the hub.
You could use the front washer as a guide and drill and tap 4 new bolt holes and not worry about the sheared bolts. Or while you are at it redrill it for a standard 6 bolt hub that is more common.

Another option would be if bolts unable to be removed easily to use a suitable puller all previously suggested , would be to clamp hub in a vice and use a deep drive socket, extension and ratchet or "t" ot knuckle bar to undo central retainer. You will then see the keyway, place the hub over the jaws of a vice adjusted so hub cannot slip through with key way uppermost.Grab a sharp chisel and position lengthwise with hub over the keyway and strike chisel firmly several times to "spread" the hub and split it through to the keyway releasing its grip on the taper, then simply remove the hub by hand.Clean up the shaft of remaining loctite and fit a new hub with loctite red or green and reinstall central retainer. You will need someone to hold engine hub squarely over vise jaws while striking chisel and proceed with care and hub will be off in no time with no bruising or damage to engine.

RE: removing the front hub on a DA50???
i totally give up........ i've spent the whole day trying to get the hub out or trying to remove the bolts but just cant manage it. couldn't find a easy-out tool anywhere, it might be difficult to find one in India.
anyway, with the limited tools and help i can't do it here and i'm going to try to send it to DA.
thanks all for really helping me on this one.
