1st attempt at scratch built chassis ,its a runner now
my son wants something different. he has a creeper now. i told him id try to build him a 2.2 scaler out of it"thumbsup"
im waiting for a honcho body to show so i can build body mounts and determine where to cut the chassis(length)
i have no clue what im doing. so i started cutting, bending, and brazing. i only have simple hand tools. heres what i came up with

Looks good so far. And just encase it becomes a hassle the Venom Safari chassis will bolt right up to what you have.

Stan, how did you get the bends in the frame rails soo good? I did a simillar thing to build a 1/5 scale crawler out of a 1/8 MOA rig. But I had to heat and bend the rails by hand.
I also just bolted SCX10 shock towers to the rails. I dont have a welder so I couldnt make metal shock towers like you did.
Keep up the work and post more pics as you do!

thanks guys.
its 3/8" square tube. no c channel
i clamped em together, heated em and bent em by eye. the sides bulged a little. just heated the bulge and tapped em flat again.
i might start bolting it together tonight

Any thoughts on how you are gonna do bumpers? My front bumper is solid tubing placed inside the square tubing and then bolted threw the side of each.

looking good.
youll find it handles alot different now...which the new shock position. the stock position being layed back and inward makes them softer.
setup as they are now will make the "act" stiffer. But it wil be more scale as well.
I need to tear mine down and paint my chassis. been to busy lately to work on it!

a lot stiffer now. plan to have it running this evening, figured out my body mounts this morning before i left for work, i got to heat and bend some spots on the rear cage to get the body alittle lower.
found a honcho bumper and a set of stock scx sliders in a box of random parts

Probs man!!.. that thing looks way cool...I'd love to have the time and equipment and know how to do something like that right now.... In the near future i will hopefully be equipped to build my own chassis and stuff...<div>
