i just wantedto know what the newest Picco 28...(pullstart for a savage), It seems as though big box retailers are not updating their website with the current image of the Picco 28 pullstart. Need to know who has the lastest model if I decide to buy one.

It wont be necessarily more mods or any less mods... Just different...... A pullstart MT engine needs to have different characteristics then a Truggy or Drag engine.... In a MT you will never be able to utilize the RPM of a true drag engine, dragsters weigh under 3 lbs , so they don't need to have a huge amount of low end power, they are so light the engines rev well past 40K so the engines need to be timed to make as much top end RPM as possible..... A MT is heavy and requires as much torque as possible to get rolling, and because of the weight the engines will never get the chance to really rev out on top end like they would in a Truggy or dragster...So in the end I tune the pullstart engines to have power where it will be used in a MT, which results in a overall better performing MT............. Also it seems there is always going to be some vacuum loss with the OWB shaft, which I have found can cause some major tuning issues if the engines are time incorrectly or too aggressively..Over the last 2 years I have developed a timing profile that works perfectly in a MT and isn't as badly affected by a little vacuum loss that goes with a pullstart engine..... The engine still makes insane power, but it is also more forgiving to tune then a drag timing would be...... A drag engine may pull 1 or 2 more MPH on a top end run, but the MT engine will accelerate harder and faster and have a stronger crisper throttle response...and in a side by side race the MT timing will pull from the drag timing....the only place the drag timing would have an advantage is if you have a very long top end run.... And truthfully these MT's don't do so well at speeds above 45 MPH, so its pointless to make a top end motor really........ I want instant hard hitting power with a MT...

The carb has definitely been updated... it has new needles and different machining... I haven't worked with it too much yet, but so far it seems very good...Its still based off the same design, but its now more refined.....If the motors setup correctly it shouldn't be hard to tune at all.... Tho because of how responsive the engine is, the linkages need to be perfect, if the throttle hangs at all it will cause tuning issues....Even the slightest hair of free play in the throttle can cause the engine to want to carry RPM or idle high...

I am confused.........

is your engine pullstart at least ?

Picco just updated their engine looks is all, not all of the advertising pictures online show the newest look..... other then a few little tweaks they are the same engines.... You just got the newest model is all..... be happy, you have the new updated carb and the new more durable cooling head... you have the best version of the Picco 28 so far.....

nope...same slide...updated machining tho...the new carbs do seem nicer...not really much different, but they have a nicer fit and finish, as well they have new needle shapes, and the new HSN is double sealed......I haven't had any of the new carbs have binding issues yet...so that is a good sign...Interesting thing is the Shumacker 28 has a steel carb slide, unlike the coated aluminum of the North American Picco's.... IMO a steel slide will be much less prone to binding when its hot.....

I have two engines with the new updated carbs and one with the older carb. But none of mine will allow for the adjustible venturi pictured? I wonder why?
