Default Kadet King x 5

John Booth-"KADET KING".......x 5!!!!

On a nice summer morning, in West Houston, the birds are singing, skies are blue, and John The "Kadet King" is out and about. He is not happy with single Kadet's, he is not happy with twin Kadets, He is not content with even Tri-Engine Kadets......No, our hero is out at the club at 6:30 AM with a Five Engine...... Kadet (????) to terrorize the usual bunch at early morning fly-in's.
Of course in the finest level of pure building skill ( and the fact that five matched engines are hard to find) this plane is equipped with one OS LA 46 in the nose, two Super Tigre's in on the inner wing nacelles, and two OS LA 25's on the outer nacelles.
Naturally, the usual light hearted wagering, ( in a County Park) begins as to where the parts will fall....if it even gets off the ground!! ( I'm in for , Yes it will fly)
What is that you say John.....you want ME to test fly it?????? SURE!!!!!! NOT MY PLANE!!!!
Let's see, how to start five engines on the same plane and keep the same finger count of three people???
Sure, we can do it....start away from us.
Ok, so now all are running and the vertical test was performed......a bit of a challenge with five engines, but necessary......yes, one engine develops a serious case of quiet. ( This is by sight only, as the noise is a bit much)..Now with two other assistantants we restart the one engine and make richer mixture. ( What do you mean two of outer these engines only have one tank of fuel through them???? No Problem!!!!!!)
Verical test retested and no problems......off to the runway.
Full power and release!!!!!! It is off!!!!!! and climbing......Professional bookies cannot change bets that fast in the back ground!!!!!!
Two clicks aileron and two up elevator and it is flying......Uh heavy!!!!!! Much heavier than the three version, but controllable. No, I am not doing 3D with this thing, leave me alone!!
Now, it seems more sluggish.....not bad, but different. Low fly by's for the camera.....Opps, center engine is out!!!!
Time to land......power to 1/4,,,,,,,,uh power to one half.....ok.......over runway...power to 1/4.....touch down......power to idle......and they all die!!!!!......Opps!!!!!!
Hey, it is still in one piece!!!!!!.......Why is my heart pounding and hands shaking?????
One six minute flight..........28 ounces of 15% fuel......can you say gasoline??????.......Just Kidding John!!! Really!!!

Default Landing

No, we did not do an inverted fly by, but landing was uneventfly.
The dreaded four engine and one out landing.

Default Rubber Bands

Uh.......yes, but 10!!!!!!!
If you think about it, there is little to no weight on the fuse to wing connection......it is all in the wing, or on the wing.
Note, the rudder control surface is two times the normal size and the tail surfaces are braced with reinforceing flying wires.
Feel better now?.......don't answer that.

Told you twins, or now multi's make you crazy!!!

Twinman
Think about it some more, the weight of the fuse might seem low in comparison to total weight, BUT it still is populated with a .46 and the fuel tank.

I will have to say that you did a fine job of guiding it around the sky and it only took a little while for the heart rate to return to normal, you said.

I noticed that you did not call for anyone to help trim it so I guess that the trims for three engines worked just as well for five.

Was it decided that it will next have pushers added or tractors on pylons above the wing????

Default Kadett x5

Yes, Eight engines have flown, but not on a Kadet!!!!!!!!
We cannot get the owner to go to pushers or a half dozen .049's, Oh well!!
Terror, if 10 rubber bands works for a single, it worked for a wing with four, the strain on the connection changes little if all the weight is on the wing. Landing does not count, as the force on a high wing is down into the fuse. Note, no aerobatics were attempted, heart would not take it......MINE!!!!!!......OR the Owner of the plane!!!

Well, ifit has to be a Kadet, how about four 15s on each wing (eight total) and a ninth on the nose?

That wopuld beat the eight 010 engined Goose by one, and be on a Kadet as well.

Default You build it and Terry and I will start it!!!

I like the idea of starting outboard and going inward. We could have had a beautiful spin if you had stayed up longer, since it was a start right to left order on the five and when you landed they were almost out of fuel.

I like the nine .15's, I would even loan a couple of engines to the project. HEH HEH HEH

Well, I missed it for staying in bed to long . Glad to see that you guys flew it OK. It's always great to see those projects ending in a nice result.
Will be there for sure when the 11 engine Kadet heads for the Skies (or wherever)

TD:

I thought you knew Twinman was missing about half his toes.

Used to be extremely quick on the trigger - by firing while the pistol was still in the holster he shot them off.

He slowed down as he aged, some toes survived.

And since his keepers wont let him play with guns any more, the survivors are safe.

Bill.

Lets see:

Eight 7" props and 1" between them

4" fuse plus 1" clearance on each side

thats 7x8+6+4+2= 68"

What is the Kadet wingspan anyway?

I wonder if you put four standoff pods on the wing and use tractor and pusher set ups, how much thrust offset you would need.

Just a thought.

TD:

Don't take your nap yet, stay awake for a moment.

Let's not put four tractors on each wing. Let's limit it to three per side. But we'll also have two pushers on each wing, as well. The inner two nacelles would extend to the rear for accomodation of the pushers.

I can see it now - six people required for engine start. One holding the nose and one on the tail, then one in front and behind each wing panel to crank their individual banks of engines,

Flying with ten turning. Great.

Then if someone puts eleven in the air, by building with the thought in mind, the outboard nacelles could be extended as the inboards, we'd turn it into a twelve engined airplane.

And if it became necessary, a thirteenth could be stuck in the nose.

Are you ready, Mr. Dactyl?

Haw.

Bill.
