RE: Savage 4.6 Junk???
They're not junk. I bashed mine HARD for 3 1/2 hours yesterday, and the only thing I broke was a body clip. Wicked fun... it almost seems more durable than my buggy. Not to mention, but your asking if it's junk and you own a low budget Redcat? Any HPI product is alot higher on the food chain than any Redcat, and not that Redcat is horrible, it's just not in the same league yet.

I didn't say they were junk, they're just not as refined as the rest of the pack yet.. but I'm sure that may come in time... possibly. I would definitely rather own a Savage over an Avalanche, not only for parts support and availability but for overall dependability.

Calm down fellas, you all got way to excited over the junk comment! And yes I fully understand what you mean about redcats, I love mine but I'm looking to get something more race worthy. My immediate thought was either savage or revo, I think that in itself states how I regard HPI products.

Junk, LOL. Keep asking around...You'll find that the Savage is the TOUGHEST monster truck out there. As well as arguably the best-looking, most "truck-like" of the lot.
That said, if race-worthiness out of the box is what you want, you might want to look at a Revo or LST2.

RE: Savage 4.6 Junk???
Just like everyone else has already said it many times, the Savage is one heck of a tough truck. Ive been through 5 gallons with my X 4.6 and its still running like new. Only thing ive ever broken from jumping it was the plastic piece that holds the shock to the arm and is attached to the shock saft (dont know the name). And that was from doing a couple of 10 foot high and 15 feet long jumps. Anything else ive ever had to replace was from simple wear and tear that happens to any and every truck. Also, the Savage looks to me like on the most powerfull and fastest trucks out there (for its size - looking from a power to weight ratio stand point). Of course im refering to straight line speed. Because if you want something that will be fast arround the track, the Savage probably wont be that great unless you modify it. A revo would be much more well suited and probably a better idea than buying a savage and turning it into a track racer. I mean, we all buy the Savage for the same reason, to have lots of fun and bash it hard.

Refer to page 14 of the manual which is viewable on the hpi web site, it is a tuning guide for once the engine is broke in

If you watched that video and havent made your mind up yet then good luck with your other choices. And that was a light bashing, I give mine way more of a bashing than that almost everytime out!! The Savage X is probably the toughest truck out there. There are 2 in our Nitro Clan and both have seen more runtime than anything else we have simply because they dont break!!! wear and tear stuff aside because they all have it and they all will break at one point its just few and far between or has been with our Savages. Buy a Savage X. ok Im done.

If you want to bash, go with a Savage. Enuff said. And if your a racer, just get good with a Savage and you will be awesome. Just have to learn how to throw her weight around. I regularly kick Revo's ass'. It's all in the sliding turns.
