Shifting problems
Ok I have recently went with some 40's mashers on my maxx. I had not ran the truck since the end of last year, but got it out as soon as the snow melted. Since adding the 40's I have not been able to shift into second. It trys, it does a couple of breaks and hops and shifts back to 1st, but never goes into 2nd. I have set everything back to default settings with the same out come each time. NN had suggested that I drop down to a 18t cb. Did that and tried both a 72 and a 70t spur. Broke down the tranny and everything looks fine. All the pins are in and none of the gears have any broken teeth. My LHS suggested maybe the Hub Assembly (4988) was bad. I have ordered a new hub assembly but I was wondering if you guys had anything else I could check. And is there anyway to check to see if the Hub Assembly is working ok? Thanks

RE: Shifting problems
is it s t-maxx 2.5r? when my cousin first bought his it didnt shift easily neither
he had to run it at very high rpms for long strecthes to finnaly get it to secong gear--stock
so he changed the cb and it didnt do any thing for the shifting..so he adjusted the shifting screw located in the tranny
he just slightly turned it counterclockwise and sure enough it was shifting but still kind of late..he turned it some more and he got it shifting in in about 15-25 feet..give or take
maybe you should get a wide ratio 2-speed...depending on what you do...ive heard people around this forum say close ratio are for bashers and such

RE: Shifting problems
sry, its a 2.5 tmaxx (black tranny) w/a 3.3 on it. I was shifting fine at the end of last year, with the stock tires. It does try to shift it just does not ever make it to 2nd, what is does is bogs down and hops for about 10-15 feet and switchs back to 1st. My LHS thought it was running lean, so I put everything back to default and retuned and the same thing. It is shifting at the same point it was with the stock tires. So you think it may be the shift point, thats what I thought at first but the guys at the LHS seem to think its in the tranny. Does anyone know of a way I can test the hub assembly to see if its working correctly?

RE: Shifting problems
9 times out of 10 shifting problems are related to needle settings. Try a little leaner on the low speed and a little richer on the high speed.I'm talking minute adjustments here, a 16th of a turn or less. Get a good high speed run between changes.
