*R.C. Ignition G26/EI*
I had Ralph put EI on a G62 for me last year and the workmanship was great. I'm looking at getting a G26/EI from him. Does anyone have a G26 that he converted to EI? He charges $400.00 for a new one so I'd like to see some pics of what all he does to this little gasser.

I had him do one for me...then I took the machining of the case down further. Ralph does excellent work, and you won't regret the end result. If the price has you second guessing, send him a good used one and it will run like new when you get it back, converted and ready to go:

You get a custom prop hub, any length you desire. Conversion to EI, crank case shortened to save weight, all excess cast case bosses removed, ignition mounted in cup mount at the rear of engine (non existant on mine pictured above), G10 carb rotator block, and lifetime warranty on the work. Sound good?

arobatx,
Ralph does do excellent work on these engines. He has a couple used G26's for sale that he said he has to replace the case and rings and it comes with the same warranty as a new one. I wasn't sure if he used the cup mount on these little engine as he did on my G62. Where did you get that nice looking muffler at dude???

Thanks for the info arobatx. Anyone have a pic of the G26 as it comes from R.C. Ignition with the cup mount and all the mods?

The alum. plate mount seen in this pic is one that I made. It is a little over 3oz lighter than the stock plate mount. Since these pics were taken, I have done away with the plate all together. I just use bolts from the backside of the firewall into the cup. (using the bolts holes that would normally be used to attach the engine to the plate mount)

RE: *R.C. Ignition G26/EI*
The one in mine pictured above, is a B&B (bennett built) G26 'header'....it is no muffler at all, just an exhaust diverter. Performance is good for an in cowl setup, but loud!!! Best performance would be to go the route Blkbird has, or use a Macs tuned pipe. The only difference between mine pictured, and how Ralph converts them, is the cup shaped rear case you see in Blkbirds pics. This is what originally housed the flywheel/mag/coil. I opted to go with a separate ignition, Falkon to be specific, and then milled the case down to lighten it further, and allow the use of standoffs in any length I wanted. The cup mount he makes for the G62 is different, it is a separate aluminum piece, whereas with the G26, it is the OEM rear crank case that is cast into that shape, it's just houses the EI module when you get it back, rather than the heavy flywheel....etc

blkbird68,
Nice looking setup. I've never used anything like that canister on your setup so is it more like a muffler or like a pipe and has to be tuned?

Well, when I made the can I was trying to get open header performance but not be as loud. I must have guessed right on my design because the setup you see in the pics was good for a 10100RPM on a 18x6E Skorepa. Compare that to 9600RPM on open header. The downside. It added a bunch of weight. Not only the extra weight of the can but the ceramic blanket that I had to wrap it in to keep it from burning the inside of the fuselage. 25% scale Ultimate just didn't have enough room for the can inside. So eventually I did away with the can and went to a slimline inverted pitts muffler. Not as much power, but I don't have all the worries of all that heat inside that small fuselage.

This is a tip I got from Ralph as he suggested that I should stick to using the alum mounting plate as it gives added support to the engine case.

I had an "expert" tell me that if I didn't use the plate I would lose several hundred RPM's and junk the bearings. That doesn't appear to be the case. The case up against a nice solid firewall works just fine. The only thing that happened was a significant chunk of weight disappeared from the nose of the plane.

How much does that alum. plate weight as I have no idea, while on the other hand I hardly ever go contrary to anything that Ralph tells me engine wise.

blkbird68,
Where did you get the header for your G26? Do you think using this header and a BudLight can would work well?

[link=http://[email protected]]Karl Mueller[/link] custom made the header. It actually matches the port unlike the MACS headers. What I have found is if you give it a big volume muffler you will get open header performance with out the noise. So I would say you would get pretty good performance from the beer can.

Like my G23 from Ralph, I'm quite sure that your G26 from him is gonna be real sweet runner and a keeper of an engine, as he is simply the best in my book.

Sorry. I accidentally entered it as a wed address instead of an email.
I can't remeber exactly what it cost. Plus, they vary based on how complex of a header you want.

I'll be putting my G26 in a Sig Rascal 110. I'm really looking for an exhaust muffler, header, that will fit inside the cowl. I don't like the idea of both sides of the cowl being hacked up.

Do you have enough room for a muffler running inside the fuse or are planning running it down the belly???

blkbird68,
I contacted Tina to see if see had a Sig Rascal in stock but no luck. Tower wants $65.00 to ship one. I don't have one yet but I had thought about a Budlight can with a header on the bottom. Maybe Tina will bring hers to the Henderson fly-in this weekend and I can check it out.

RE: *R.C. Ignition G26/EI*
here is how mine looks with the B&B muffler.
Only the carb sticks out the side of the cowl and then I had to cut out for the muffler. I may get the header later and a new cowl to try and keep it inside the cowl.
BTW Zippi, mounting the blind nuts is a chore. In order to maintain the offset marked on the firewall, one blind nut flange has to be notched out to fit around one of the stringers that supports the firewall. The hatch I noted in the other thread, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_72...tm.htm#7936786
will make this much easier. It will also allow you to add epoxy around the blind nuts to secure them.

Capt,n I'm with you on this one. I'm a kit and scratch builder at heart and try my best to built as light as is pratical while maintaining as much structural integrity as possible, but since the plate weights very little I'll stick to using one even if it's just for my very own peace of mind.
