Help, I need advise on how to get old gooey fuel off the side of a 15 year old plane? I have tried windex, and 409 but nothing is working. it has what looks to be monokote or ultracote. It is pretty thick material for covering not thin and cheap. Got any ideas on how to make this plane look pretty again without having to re-cover? Thanks Tim

Try WD40..then follow with soap and water....that should cut the gunk...then use a good wax...like Turtle wax....

Try in a small area first....

If the gunk is from the oil in old fuel try Denatured alcohol. It will cut right through the gunk.

Wax? I've done that once/twice... Anybody regularly wax their baby? Does it help with cleanup or anything??

Default are you sure it's monokote?

If you're sure it has Monokote or similar, I'd use Lacquer thinner,
It cuts just about anything and won’t hurt the monokote except for a little dulling.
Then, Yes use some regular car wax, or Maguire’s plastic polish to give it that new plane shine back,

I wax all my planes (Painted or monokote covered) at least once a year, to keep them looking nice, and yes it makes the clean up easier.

I don't know if the advice you all are giving is just for Tkigar's particular problem or if the same goes for general use after a flight. I've used 409 and Windex to clean the oil and goo off my plane after a flight with mediocre results. The Windex seems to work better than 409, but it still smears the oil around at first rather than picking it up. It takes a lot of paper towels to get the oil off. Is there something I can use as a "Pre-cleaner" to remove most of the oil prior to using the Windex? My plane has Oracover on it.

I use an old rag for after flight cleaning, then at the end of the day I break out the windex and give it a good going over. I do on occasion use a liquid wax on them. Don't know if it does a BUNCH of good, but it does make it shine and gives me piece of mind.

I get 'Pyroil' starting fluid at NAPA, but any hardware store should carry it. It's $1.50 for 20 ounces. I can get 30 or so cleanings per can. I just saturate 1 Scott's shop rag after folding 4 times. That gives me 8 new cleaning surfaces. I hit the heavy stuff first, then buff to a high shine with the remaining 6 or 7 'new' cleaning surfaces. Takes less than 1 ounce to saturate a rag, and only 1 rag to clean a 60 size plane. Works like a charm.

Default off the subject regarding gunk

OK, totally off the subject, I have some paper sticky gunk stuff on the back window of my new truck...how can I get it off? It's a factory tinted window and the gunk has come from the temp license tag i had to hang in the window. when i took the tag of i was left with 2 parallel lines of gunk.....for the lack of a better word.
