40% Extra airbrush motivs
Hi - what type of paint/colour should I use for airbrushing motivs?
Itīs for a 40% Extra with gasolin.
Would prefer a one component type, and give it gas-resistent cote after.

Airbrush
Poul,
What a great looking design!
Because of the complexity of the layout, I would suggest liquid mask as a stencil. It would be easier than taping the model up and less time consuming.
I only use automotive paints.
You can use artists acrylics but it would have to be cleared.
House of Kolor makes enamels that can be sprayed but may not be available in your neck of the woods.
I hope this helps.
PS. Can I use your design? I just love it!

Liquid Mask
Polle,
Liquid mask is exactly what it is called. It's applied as a liquid. Sprayed or brushed. Then
it dries. Afterwards, lines can be drawn on it for the scheme. Using a #11 Exacto blade, you
simply cut lightly the areas to be painted. You cut the perimeter then remove the
dried film. You continue for all areas to be painted a particular color. Then so on and
so on for each color. Hobby shops will have mask. Some auto body supply stores will
also.

Forget the liquid mask and call Pro Mark and get them to cut you some paint masks. www.pro-mark.com
The paint masks are cut out of low tack vinyl and they will be custom done for your wing. They do the best job and are much easier to apply than any other type of masking and are relatively inexpensive.

Oensker jer begge good luck med jeres projekter.

40% Extra airbrush motivs
Roger,
Sorry for the jiberish, it's Danish, I'm from Denmark, left in '86, don't get many chances to hear/read that language, which by the way is really bloody hard to speak, anymore. Unfortunately I can't take credit for the design I posted. I got that from Martin Johnston at (www).SigmaSignWriting.(com). He is in Longston, Preston UK, and his prices for decals are very reasonable. He will also work with you on your design. The website is in its infancy, but more information can be had by sending an e-mail to Martin.
Kasper,
I looked at your website, holy cow, there are some money in that workshop with the Engell 40%Extra300S, do they all claim those purchases as "company related" expenses, he he, because they must not be paying the Danish income tax and afford those planes, LOL. In the 80s I lived in Tulstrup, outside Hilleroed, about 2 miles from "Nord Sjaellands Fjernstyrings Klub", I used to go watch them fly Thursday evenings and Sundays. I went to visit in the summer of '97, and they are pretty much just into cars now.

Hej Jens.
Jeg fik aldrig svaret dig da du skrev først - sorry - der gik ret lang tid inden jeg så det.
By the way.... today I have startet the masking of the bottom. I createt a new design, hopefully a little bit easier than the horse.
I gues that I got another problem
The plane is gelcoatet white, and Iīm just going to paint small parts of it, shadows and like that, where the area is not going to be paint full covered, and the white area will be seen.
Damn - How can I sand just what I should paint?
Is it enough just to clean?
Can I paint the gelcoatet surfaces without sand it? Hhhhmmmm HEEELP

You have two choices.
Scuff the entire model with an automotive scuff pad, do your airbrush
thing, then clear coat the entire model.
Or you can mask off areas, do the work, then clear coat just that area.
This is a photo of a model I painted a while ago. It was airbrushed,
detailed, then the entire model was clear coated with Dupont clear acrylic.

The masking material vinyl is a good choice if using multiple colors. I got some from a friend at a local graphics shop and used my graphics software to design and cutter to cut it out, then weed as nessecary.
You can find a local sign maker with everything needed to complete you job, I painted flames on my heli and have seen even lighting and the concrete effects done nicely using the masking material. For area's were you freehand the 3m fineline tape does curves very well..(blue 3M fineline tape)
Low tack masking is very important, because no left over tape glue residue is left over (If you wipe off glue residue it will usually damage your airbrush paint-most are alcohol based).
The other low tack regular vinyls will leave glue. Do not ask how I know, I had to redo a nicely painted Fazer once due to messy glue left over...
