Savage X SS 4.6 vs TMaxx 3.3
Hi
I currently own a TMaxx 2.5, but have hardly used it.
I want to upgrade, but want to know which is best.....
Savage X SS 4.6 vs TMaxx 3.3
Which is quicker?
Which is the more robust??
Are they 3 speed transmission?
Do they both have reverse??
Which is best?

RE: Savage X SS 4.6 vs TMaxx 3.3
Well you posted this in the Traxxas forum, so get ready for anti-HPI posts
Savage
Not as quick
VERY robust
3 speed available
Reverse
T-Maxx
Quicker
Pretty robust (upgraded bulkheads and A-Arms are usually purchased)
2 speed (no 3 speed)
Reverse
Its really up to you. A T-Maxx is used more for racing and a Savage is used more for bashing. But hey, why not get a Revo?
And yes I have owned a T-Maxx, 2 Savages, and a Revo.

I have a TMAXX 2.5 now, but thought that things may have got better / faster etc...
Why is a Revo better than a TMAXX??
What sort of speeds do the Revo, TMAXX, Savage Reach??
How quick is the 3 speed Savage?

The 3 speed is kind of over rated. You get a little increase in acceleration and top end, but nothing to pee your pants about. Out of the box, the T-Maxx 3.3 and Revo 3.3 are pretty matched with top speed (42-45mph), and the Savage (35-38mph) is a little behind. The Revo is more durable than the T-Maxx and is truly just an all around amazing truck. The T-Maxx 3.3 still has some durability problems that Traxxas didnt fix when they made the change from the 2.5R.

Lax,don't ya think ya ought to mention how durable the Savage is?i see where you mentioned the top speed of traxxas is a tad higher and how the revo is more durable than the maxx, but how durable is the Savvy?me personally, ill give up a few mph to gain durability.

RE: Savage X SS 4.6 vs TMaxx 3.3
The Savage SS 4.6 is a very tuff truck, thats it. Two freinds both have them. The truck is slow and alot louder then the Traxxas trucks, it also uses a lot more fuel [big block]. The Revo is strong, MUCH faster [even as a 2.5], handles better and is way more adjustable. The Savage was a disapointment when I saw it run for what they paid for them. T-maxx or Revo....Revo is a better truck, the T-maxx will cost you more in the long run because you will spend good money in aluminum upgrades to get it to match the Revos durability. A 3.3 T-maxx will spank a Savage SS in performance but after a day of jumps and back flips you will have a better chance of bringing home a Savage in one piece then a T-maxx.

RE: Savage X SS 4.6 vs TMaxx 3.3
I dont own a tmaxx but i do have a revo 3.3 And a savage x (also lst2,Schumacher Havoc, savage ss 4.6.......) apples to oranges it doesnt matter which one you buy you will end up spending allot of $$$ on any of the trucks you pick to buy. The problem most people have is they think they can buy a good truck and that is it, they dont think to get that truck to the point they see in most videos it will cost them allot of $$$. There is no perfect RC vehicle, evan if there was were is the fun if you cant hop it up. But at the end of the day it doesnt matter what i drove its all about the fun factor. However you look at it everyone will agree NITRO ROCKS

never listen to RCCA. ill tell you who they nominated the winner, the t-maxx. they are biased. the Savage is much much much much more durable then a t-maxx. i hit a t-maxx with my savage 25, the t-maxx ended up with ALL of its bulkheads broken, all of its left side arms broken, broken knuckle, and broken skidplates. it almost ripped the whole rear end off but the rear left tire of my savvy hit his front left tire (which blew apart the front end) and stopped the momentum. how good of a basher is a savage? see for yourself

this is my Savage X. nothing broken from what youve seen here. this is my light bashing in my backyard (where my camera is handy) it has gone through much worse, like sumps, sand pits, motocross tracks, water (lots of it). this truck will keep asking for more.

OK guys! Its time to end the bull*****. I am a T-maxx and Savage owner.
My Savage outstrips my t-maxx by at least 5 mph. I have yet to break my savage. I have broken the T-maxx and spent well over $200 in parts (RPM ARMS blukheadsx3 skidplates) Personally, the savage has much quicker accelaration and top speed and the Savage is stock whereas the T-maxx is slightly upgraded. Savage is EXTREMELY durable. You will NOT break this truck! I am non biased and I am basing all of this info on both trucks. I have has the T-maxx 2.5 for over a year and a half. The Savage 25 is over 5 months old. The T-maxx is a bit more beginner friendly out of the box but if you have experience, the Savage is a blast. There you go guys, this is my honest opinion. Good luck choosing.[8D]

RE: Savage X SS 4.6 vs TMaxx 3.3
OK come on now I race against A few Revos and Tmaxxs i have the savage 25 with a os 30 no other upgrades aside form the 4 gear diffs. I run with the proline bowties and have modded the shocks I leave them both all over the track and aside from that I leave them on the street an have ran over the top of them, Yea there are some guys who will tell you what they think is a better truck but in all honesty the savage holds up better to the bashing yes you have to mod it a little to race it but not to bash at all. I have had my truck filp 15 feet in the air and smack the wall indoor track and drove away. I have hit the pole at fllspeed almost and it stoped dead in its tracks and still drove away The only time I broke something is when I hit a curp at full speed when My fail safe went out and the truck went about 30 feet straight up and back down and all I broke was the battery tray the posts and bent the plates a tad a little bit of time and i was running again. Almost any time I see the other trucks run they break axles they break fuel tanks they break just abuot everything, they are sitting on the side in the pits most of the day and I keep on running only going back to charge the batterys and get fuel. So really now The savage is one tough truck..

RE: Savage X SS 4.6 vs TMaxx 3.3
OK now i have owned a savage and a revo! I sold the Savage and got a revo! The revo is a great truck. The savage is too but i didn't like it: a pain to work on, always getting crushed on the track, and to much like a tank. It is durable but thats about it. The revo is fun to use and a beast. I have had my revo for about a week and it has been stock for about 6 days out of 7 and i have only cracked the filter housing. On the 7th day i spent 85 dollars and made it as durable or more. RPM arms, Push rods, shock mount, and springs. Not only is it now a great basher, now i can beat most trucks at the track and i am a newbie. I love my revo! just get a revo!

RE: Savage X SS 4.6 vs TMaxx 3.3
Well I haven't tried the T-maxx yet but from my limited experience with monster trucks I have been very happy with the Savage and only had to do one repair when I hit a piece of concrete at full speed. I bent the frame rails and broke one A-arm but still drove away. I noted it was driving a bit funny and the throttle wasn't working as usual, and when I inspected it noted the damage. Thus far I give the savage 5 stars, fast enough for me and durable as hell. I just came to this post here to check out the comparisons, as I am thinking of getting a t-maxx 3.3 as well. All I can say is the monster trucks are a hell of a lot of fun and much cheaper to repair than my nitro heli.

Are they 3 speed transmission?
Do they both have reverse??

RE: Savage X SS 4.6 vs TMaxx 3.3
i have experience with both trucks (having owned a t-maxx and now owning a savage) and the t-maxx sucks every time i hit something at 20mph the bulkheads broke. so i sold it and picked up a savage le it is a ton tougher then any t-maxx will ever be and it is not slow i clocked it at 39.6mph so throw a 3-speed in with the 4.6 you'll get high 40s and beat t-maxxes in the backyard bash and in the drag.
