RE: Tire size
Guy,
Bigger tires mean the engine has to work harder as you accelerate. So the vehicle will accelerate more slowly (lose low end). On the other hand, you will go faster at maximum engine RPMs (gain top end).
Smaller tires mean faster acceleration but less top end.
Hope this helps.

RE: Tire size
If you can, you can raise the gear ratio to compensate(some) for the bigger tires. Example: Change clutchbell & spur gear.
I know I had to raise mine quite a bit(by adding a counter gear) on my monster truck or I would just burn up the clutch shoes trying to accellerate.

RE: Tire size
Another thing bigger tires will do is get you quicker response in the air when going off of jumps. With monster trucks that have big tires just a little tap of the break can bring the nose way down but with say a buggy the same amount of breaks won't affect it as much because of the smaller tires.

RE: Tire size
hmm.
This has got me thinking about what would happen if I put a set of my old road tires onto my python.
That should be fun. Drifting in ice.

Those wheels ARE already 1/2 inch offset......
Losi and Jammin are the 2 Major MFG's that use 1/2 1nch offset wheels on their Truggys....
And Yes.....the stock Rancho wheels are at Least 1/2 inch offset, maybe even More.....
But if you Bought Extenders from HimotoRacingUSA, then you should be Fine with ANY rim you Buy....
Here is a Link to the PROLINE offset Guide.....It might help you out......
