RE: savage xl gear problem
looks like your spur gear is a-wobbling....... [X(] make sure that both nubs on the slipper clutch(behind the spur gear) are seated , recheck gear mesh....you will have some noise also........

RE: savage xl gear problem
Sometimes backing off the spur far enough to rotate it 180 degrees will help. Another mistake is cranking the spring down too tight and collapsing it. Sometimes this cause the spur to wobble as the coil gets off center. You will always have noise though as the two gears are metal without lube. Looks pretty normal to me. Glen

RE: savage xl gear problem
loosen the nut on the spring far enough to free the spur gear from the slipper clutch face, rotate the clutch face till it seats flush, push and hold the spur gear against the assy, while tightening,I had to crank mine down all the way and back it out 1/4 turn to keep it from popping out again, [8D]

Hmmmm,??? I'm using a (stock 17/52 combo) and this does seem "at the edge of adj." but if this is less that what your using ,then sumthin is either "too big" or "outtawack"..........you need to get some adj. leeway in there...

RE: savage xl gear problem
tighten it all the way, then back it off 1/4 - 1/2 turn, any looser than that the nub will pop out on you,as for the noise .......... it's gonna make noise,(steel gears do that),as long as there is no binding or clicking you'll be A-OK.....now get out there and beat the crap out of it.....

RE: savage xl gear problem
Stock XL should be 16/52, if you have 17/52 you are out of adjustment space. I had to do a little Dremel work on the chassis plates and engine mount to run 17/52. Glen
