Red Leader Composites Eurofighter arrived!
Hi guys!
On Friday, I got a big, quite flat package on my door by DHL - Christmas time again!!
It was my Red Leader Composites Eurofighter Typhoon for the Wren 44 Gold. The plane
was delivered almost finished, at least all the formers and gear doors were in place, the
wings attached and the entire plane filled, sanded, primed and painted grey - it looks great!
I ordered mine from Chris at RLC, and he did a great job. I asked him to include a steel pipe
and undercarriage, the steel pipe is specially made for this plane, and very nicely done, the
UC is JetA1, which speaks for itself. I started out with the cockpit, as this consists of a frame,
the glass, the floor and a wooden frame. Before I glued everything together I wanted to make
a nice interior, so found some old parts and made some prints, looks good from a few feet away!!
I am about to start mounting the tanks, the turbine and the servos and valves next week, so watch
this place - I have seen this model fly with an EDF setup, and it looks very good in the air!

I made a few enquiries about this and very nearly bought one but, in the end, decided it was too expensive for what it is. I was also a little disappointed that the website lists the price ex VAT so the price was actually 20% more than I thought it was.
Still, it looks nice and I'm interested to see how you get on with it.

That's one reason it's to live outside the EU - we get the price (from within EU) without the VAT!!
Still, it's a very nice model, 3 Norwegians have bought one already, and it came almost completely built,
which I like a lot! [8D]

I see that the website has been updated to show VAT (as well as export) prices
Now I just need to wait for the price to drop and I'll be happy
A painted, built Eurofighter ready for install costs from £1350 upwards. As a comparison, a Comp ARF Spark in a similar build state (which is incredibly well built and finished) is about £950. That's quite a big difference.

David - I got the straight pipe as I both wanted to keep the noise down and the thrust up! I will be building a little this week, and
will post some updates here as I go along!

RE: Red Leader Composites Eurofighter arrived!
The price is actually £1140 inc VAT for a fully built model
I'll clarify myself then by saying that one of your Eurofighters, painted in a colour scheme other than grey, costs approximately £400 (approx 40%) more than a Spark. Whether that comparison is fair is a different question. Whether it is worth the price is up to the individual purchaser to decide - for me personally it isn't. For icepilot it obviously was as he bought one
no building
Tor, have you done any work on yours yet?

RE: Red Leader Composites Eurofighter arrived!
I will post quite a few pictures here tomorrow - the plane is (almost!!) ready to fly,
all servos in, all cylinders in, tanks in, turbine in, UC in, only receiver and valves +
turbine stuff to go, then it's up in the air!! Still have to juggle a few things around to
hit the CG without any ballast, though! It's a nice plane to work with, and the main thing
for me (although the wing profile isn't very scale) is that it is a scale jet - I love jets
with real big brothers!

No, I only fly off a real runway, if I flew off grass I would probably have modified or dropped the main doors.

You could also use a 65mm main wheel and a slightly longer oleo, which would give an extra 10mm length.
When the legs are down the outer doors should also be canted outwards, which also gives a little more clearance. But as Tor mentioned this setup is ok on Tarmac.

That is correct, the door mechanism in not mounted in this picture, so the doors are not angled outward as they will be
when everything is in place.

RE: Red Leader Composites Eurofighter arrived!
Hi guys!
My new Eurofighter is now ready to fly, I have put some temporary markings on it to see it better against a grey
sky, and I just love the way it looks! All systems are tested, but I'll be going out of town for a few days, and will
try to maiden her next weekend if the weather gods are with us...
Dry weigth is 5.3 kg, so with 1 kg of fuel the takeoff weight will be 6,3 kg or 14lb, the Wren 44 Gold delivers 10lb,
should be a perfect match.
Marc: You can see now that the doors will not be a problem, there is good clearance, and you can even make it
bigger for grass operations, if you like.
Looking forward to flying it!![8D]

I flew Chris's prototype from our 90m grass strip and couple of times and it was never a problem on take off or landing. Big inlet, thick wing and a small angle of attach and it slows up fine, even in calm conditions

Chris, that black Typhoon is beautiful! Did you ship it to Dag yet?
I am hoping to fly mine some time between Christmas eve and New Years eve,
we just have to hope for good weather!
