Default gy240 vs. gy401 which one??

I've been trying to compare these two gyros w/out much luck. There isn't a huge price difference so that's not really the worry. But for now I fly only a Dragonfly, would I get any benefit out of the 401 over the 240? I'm buying a new radio soon, so maybe then I will. But for now, in looking at the [link=http://www.futabarc.com/radioaccys/futm0807.html]specs here[/link], about the only advantage I see is the frequency. Some help in making a decision would be appreciated. Oh, if it helps, I'm planning on getting a JR 6102 radio soon. Thanks,
j
*EDIT* Oh, if someone can recomend a good place to buy radio gear please mention it. Also, if you have a better suggestion than the 240 or 401, by all means tell me about it. Thanks!

Hi

Not only the frequency different, GY401 support remote gain adjustment. What that means is that u can hook it up to a free channel and use your TX to adjust its sensitivity while flying.

Disadvantage is its weight but it is only 2 grams different (GY240 = 25g, GY401 = 27g)

Hmmm....considering I don't yet have a TX w/ an extra chanel to adjust that gain, and is that really needed when flying a DF, I'm thinking the 240 sounds like the dog for me. Thanks,
j

Hi Wooderson

I not sure about this but I think if you enable HHold together with ESC Mixer, the tail motor movement may go haywire. Not sure about it. Anyway, Futaba GY240 and GY401 can turn off the HHold. With HHold turn off... the performance is still better than those stock gyro.

Hi Wooderson

As I said... I not sure enable HHold (or AVSC) together with Mixer will work properly or not. But doubt so. I hope someone try it before a can answer for you.

Again, as I said, even u use Futaba (for example) with HHold disabled, it the gyro performance is still better than those stock gyro. If you don't mind, u can get Futaba GY240 first and turn off the AVSC. Once you save enough money or u do decide u want to go Seperate Avionic, U still can use back the GY240.

Superhornet... do you mean if i use a gy240 with my dragonfly, i won't be able to use heading hold?
Anyway, how do you install it? Do i just have to replace the pg03 with the gy240.... or do i have to detach the mixer? Could you explain it please?

Hi Xperimental

ESC Mixer is like having a predefined Revo Mixing in the Chopper itself. So if you going to use HHold together with ESC Mixer, I believe you might get a erratic movement. If you do not have ESC controller...I guess u can't enable AVSC. If you have extra ESC, u can use that spare ESC (e.g. ICS50) to power the tail motor instead. In this case you can enable AVSC.

Bottom line is, you either use:
Choice #1
ESC Mixer for Main, ICS50 (example) for Tail, GY240 with HHold Enable.

Choice #2
ICS100 (example) for main, ICS50 (example) for Tail, GY240 with HHold Enable.

Choice #3
ESC Mixer for Main and Tail, GY240 with HHold DISABLED.

Mounting your GY240 is not same orientation as PG-03. That is, if you mount GY240 with "Futaba" label facing horizontally, the gyro will not work properly. The Futaba label need to face upward or crazy method of facing downward. U can mount on the same location as PG-03 but remember to place it such a way the Futaba is facing upward (sky). Better location is either in front or at the top of the beginning of tail boom.
