nitro stampede
I'm going to be buying a nitro stampede in the near future(1-2 weeks, depeding if i get payed soon) I already own an electric pede, but i really want to get into nitro. electrics are just getting kind of a hassle to have all those batteries around. Getting back on subject, is this a good truck to start out nitro on? And when breaking in the motor, are there any tips you guys could give me ahead of time? Thanks for any help.

RE: nitro stampede
This is the first nitro I got, and its still my favorite. Mostly sentimental though. its easy to work on and the pro .15 is very reliable compared to the 2.5 I followed the instructions traxxas gives to the letter and got almost two and I half gallons thru it before I saw signs of wear. Just take it easy and buy lots of plugs, you might also want to get a glow plug igniter and use that for breakin.
Advice would be follow directions, use traxxas 10% trust me it still goes and the high nitro content fuels can be brutal on an engine. Take it easy on corners it like to flip. break it in on the tar not in grass.
Good luck and Have fun

Thanks for the reply. I forgot one thing, is the stampede durable like the epede is? I head it is very tough, but the differential and the shocks are a little weak point.

I owned a nitro Stampede for 6 years, I bought it early in its production in 1999 the grey colored chassis - not blue. I loved the truck for what it was, but there are better choices out there. I put the stinger exaust on mine, which made enough power to constanstly snap the rear universals - bought CVDs, built them like they said - snapped them. It is also very top heavy and hard to keep going forward. I also began to chew spider gears like chewing gum. Put them in run a couple of tanks then nothing. Put the ball diff in, too much torque and I could tighten any more to move forward. The last thing is that the rear aluminum plate begins to sag if you jump it too much, ruining the mesh to the spur untill it finally strips. Also - almost forgot - the d**n chassis plastic the use will not hold a screw after one or two time of taking the screw out - very frustrating. All this said I still loved it, but I would not buy one today. Oh yeah and another thing - jump it too high hit the ground and POOP goes the shock top. Shock oil everywhere. - I think that is everything. If I did, i would spend some money lowering it to get it to handle better.
There are allot better MTs out there - did you thing of a REVO?

RE: nitro stampede
Yeah I thought about the revo, but the price is kind of bugging me. I have heard great things about it and whatnot, but the price makes me quiver. Since this is my first nitro truck i was thinking something small and easy, like a stampede, rustler, or evader. But if im going to spend 290 on a pede, then I also say why not spend a few extra bucks and get a sportmaxx or stadium maxx.

RE: nitro stampede
what about the stadium maxx? i haven't read much on them, but i forgot about the savings on towerhobbies right now. so i could get it for 280 if i order it soon. i already have batteries and a charger so all i need is nitro, glow plugs, and a fuel bottle

I do not own one, but race against them. They are a fine vehicle, but their wheelbase, by todays standards is a liitle short. Tends to make it flip, or lower it to get it o handle. If all you are going to do is bash - It is an excellent choice. The only problem I really ever saw was the the Fuel tank like to snap after large jumps - I mean really large jumps. I don't think that will be an issue for you though.
nicholsm04 is right though if you really want Traxxas - save your cash and get a Revo - they really are that much better and it is truly is race ready. Just put better kicks on it(tires) and they are a terror on the track.

RE: nitro stampede
nicholsm04, i have read many posts u have sent (once u gave faulse info on comparing the revo and the LST and thought the trx 2.5 was a .25 size) and im sorry but please dont post if u dont know anything about the topic the t maxx does not brake easily at all i mean obviously the revo is better, or traxxas wouldn't have released it but the t maxx is alot cheaper for a first truck and is alot less complicated than the revos high tech design and has a vast after market support so my advice is go for the t or the s maxx 4 a first truck as u said the revo is a bit pricey.

RE: nitro stampede
Thanks for the comments. I think im just going to get an S-maxx as my first nitro. Im only gonna be bashing, not much racing but maybe an occasional drag race against some buddies. ive got about 400 dollars saved up for replacement parts and hop ups(not counting the money for the car itself.)

RE: nitro stampede
good choice, you will enjoy it! only thing I'd recommend is getting alu bulkheads and some kind of stronger shocks (big bores i hear are the best) as in 2 years i have bent 4 shocks and snapped 2 caps! i realy need to get round to getting some big bores oh yeah and a better cooling head is a good idea.

RE: nitro stampede
A t-maxx was my first truck and it has treated me very well. Its a great first nitro becauase its simple and easy to work on (The revo can be kinda complicated for a first nitro). not to meantion the after market parts and if you brake something the lhs is bound to have it. With that said id say go for the s-maxx. Also i dont no why people think the t-maxx easily breaks, i had a runaway that went into the road and got hit by a car. and the broken parts list was very minimum. less than most the storys ive heard about jumps gone wrong. it ended up being like $50 dollars to fix. So i wouldent say they brake very easily
