Da-85 bit low on rpm. Any orlando/clermont area flyers ?
Hey guys, just got my Da-85 up and running. Seems I'm not quite getting the rpm I think I should be getting out of it. It's running a 26x10 menz prop 32:1 lawnboy ashless and a slimline pitts. This is my first time tuning a gas engine and I have read quite a bit on it so I'm not totally lost by any means. Seems people are getting easily 6400-6900rpms out of theirs pretty easy and I can't seem to get really more then 5900-6000 right now. I know it needs some more break in but I dont expect to see that big of a jump. Also have seen people getting those rpm's from their first tanks of fuel. both my needles are still set to 1.5turns because when I started to lean the high it just seemed to start to drop off so I back it up again. Tried a bit richer too and seemed to have the same results so I just stayed slightly on the backside of the peak rpm. The engine seems to transition really well so I really didn't play with the low end much at all. Also the engine seems a bit on the hot side after I shut it down but maybe that's just me and my lack of experience with these engines. Maybe I just shouldn't trust my hand to tell me engine temperature lol. I'd honestly thing I'm running on the rich side of things. Trying to take as best care of my motor and possible and do this right but curious of theres anyone with some good pointers. Anyone in the Florida area actually know where their needles are set ? I know my engine is going to be different but I'd sort of like a idea where I might end up.
Also I'm a bit new to the area. I'm located in Clermont and hoping to maybe find somewhere fairly close to fly. Maybe even a couple of folks with some decent experience in tuning gas engines. Be nice to meet some fun folks to fly with too

It will run hotter on the ground than it will in the air, That is a big fan on the front of it but most of the air is going to the tip of the prop, A lot more air goes over the cylinder when it is moving in the air.

Your RPM's are not far off from where they should be at this point. I was looking around at other posts on this engine.
The main thing you want to do is get it in the air.
