Default Giant Sweet N' Low Engine & Setup Questions. Please help

Hi,

I am getting back into RC Planes after a 12 year break. Did Heli's and Nitro boats inbetween, and still run gas boats.

What gas engine would you choose for the 84" wingspan 17+- pound plane? Is a G-38 Enough Power for good responsive flying? (I don't need unlimited Vert.)

In the old days, we would build the 20, 40, and 60 size sticks with no dihedral and they flew great. Has anyone build the giant S N L with no dihedral? What were the results?

Thanks very much for your input,

William

Default What's your style of flying?

I'd recommend the ZDZ 40B package deal from www.rcshowcase.com

$430 for everything....just bolt, charge and FLY!

But it depends on your flying style really...you could go up to a 60-80cc on that plane.

High Flights!

Default Giant sweet n low

I'm on my 6 giant sweet n low The one I fly now has a ZDZ 80 in it and it flies the best of all of them. The answer to your question is keep it light and anything from a quadra 35 to a 100 twin will work just fine. On my last plane I cut the wing down to 80in and it seems to roll better. Just to let you know that with the right power combo you can fly the FAI pattern not bad for one ugly airplane.

The new ZDZ 50 would be a good choice for a 17 lb plane. I have one in a plane thats a Little over 16 lbs with better than great performance.
Are kits still available for the Sweet and Low /

Default Giant Sweet & Low

I've got an old GS&L that I use as an engine and radio hack. It's had everything from a Quadra 35 to a Centermark 100 twin on it and it flys well with either of those and anything in between. Flys well on the 35cc engine and the only differences with bigger engines is vertical and landing (heavier the nose gets, more you have to control throttle on landing cause it starts getting some major "sink" at idle) with the Q35 you can just chop throttle and land, with a Sachs 3.2 you have to start carrying a little power on landing. If you get above about 20 lbs I'd start thinking about upgrading the landing gear to a heavier duty gear.
Great flying airplane, have fun with it.

Default Giant Sweet N' Low Engine & Setup Questions. Please help

OK you guys really got me thinking, so I need to ask a follow-up question if I may. I am considering from a G-38 or ZDZ40b or a ZDZ60 or 80 or G-62 with electronic Ignition.

If you were flying out of a ridgetop fairly small fairly rough grassy pasture area which engine would you pick.

Thanks in advance for the help and information!!
