Default lipo Qs

ok so I got a lipo system for my birthday (september 5) and i got a hyperion 0403i and a hyperion 4270mah cx 7.4v pack. heres what i don't get..... when i plug it it after it is out (7.460-7.420) and then after charging it is 8.412v, why is it 1v higher then what it says? why don't they call it an 8.4v because it's max output is 8.4v?

They use "nominal" voltage , pretty much empty state of charge. Not sure why. [X(]

yeh, my venom 11.1volt lipo charges upto 12.54 volts. but, when the battery needs to be re-charged(when the low-voltage cutoff kicks in) the battery reads 10.8-11.3. like what was mentioned, they show the nominal voltage, not the max. that max voltage may only last a short while, then you really have 7.4-7.8 volts for the majority of your use.

It's the same with all rechargeable batteries. nimh AA batteries are a nominal 1.2v but charge up to 1.5v.

not all rechargeables... ni-cad, nimh, li-po, li-ion, are all advertised at the nominal voltage, but NOT li-Fe (A123) for some reason. With A123 batteries they advertise them at the full charge voltage of 3.3 volts/cell....
