I would go with a SW.26 carb if you can find one. If not, just grab one off of a Mach.26.... or pretty much any other BB of comparable size. The HPI one is crappy and almost anything could be classified as an upgrade.

I've had two savage carbs go bad in the last 3 months.
The last one was on my LE, So i called HPI last Wednesday and told them
about this problem. They said they would send me a new carb and it came
2 days ago. My sons savage had the other bad carb. I had bought a new
HPI carb of e-bay for $25 and put that on his. But I decided to try a
XTM or mach 427 carb. I got lucky and won a mach 427 carb for $1.95
plus $4.5 shipping. I also won the bid on an XTM carb for $10 plus 3.95 shipping.
I got the mach carb in the mail last friday and it fits right in the S-25 block.
But the venturi or ID of carb is 7mm where as the HPI carb is 7.5 mm.
I reamed the ID of the mach carb to 7.5mm and installed it on my sons
savage and it works good. The XTM carb came in the mail today
and it to has an ID of about 7mm. I haven't enlarged the ID of it yet.
I'm just going to keep it for a spare if needed. Buy the way the
mach carb and the XTM carb look identical.

The Sportwerks carb has interchangable inserts so you can customize how large the venturi is w/o having to do any reaming.
I have heard that HPI is good about replacing the carbs, which is good. However, all that does is give you another carb that's likely to go bad, which is not good.
I put the Mach26 carb on mine w/o reaming the venturi and it does not seem to run any different from the stock one. Except it hasn't screwed up.

What do you mean?
Do you mean a performance increase? Or just a carb that works? Either one would be an improvment over the stock carb and not a waste, right?

Aside for the WS carb, does any know other companies that do a similar concept? Seems really a unique idea...

The SW carb is just a really nice piece of equipment. It has the 6.5, 7.5 , and 9mm inserts that allow it to be used with practically any BB and it works really well. The higher quality helps insure that it stays working.

The Mach, SH, and XTM engines all use a good cheap carb too. I love the carb on my LRP(SH). After talking to some people, my little HPI .25 might get some more use on it. Supposedly the Nitrostar wakes up nicely with some porting and a SW carb with the midsize insert. I might save a couple of dollars by doing this instead of buying another engine for my Mad Force. That truck really doesn't need anymore topend than it's stock .21 provides, but it lacks torque. I think a modded .25 would be ideal for it.

Hey Chronic, I ported and polished the S-25 motors in my sons
savage and my savage. With a good airfilter , a THS #8025 pipe
and I enlarged the ID of the carb and I was amazed at the differance
in these motors. You will not be disappointed. I bought a few extra crankshafts
off E-BAy to experiment with. I threaded the ID of one crank with a square
thread to see if it would improve induction. With out a dyno, I can't be sure.
I used the following article for info.

I ran a SH.28 carb on my s25 engine for a while (when I still ran a .25) with much improvement. It also has a larger venturi than the std s25 carb
I'll also probably end up porting this engine to make most of performance and buy a buggy to fit it to.

Well that's good to hear. I think it would be neat to have a little thumper nitrostar .25, because they get no respect. That Mad Force weighs about the same as a Revo, and it has a three speed! I think it would a fast little combo.

And Boydie, make sure post the results if you end up modding that thing!
