NIB Early first gen T-Maxx
I got this today in trade and I have a few questions. When did Traxxas start using painted lids and the wand style of EZ-Starts? The T-Maxx I have has an EZ-Start that straps to a battery pack and a clear lid with a decal sheet. It is truly NIB, never seen a drop of fuel. I opened it for the first time today to check it all out and man- I've never had a rig this clean, lol. So my last questions are- do I bash it or keep it as a shelf queen? Any collectability on these? I know Traxxas doesn't have a huge collectors market but I have never seen one this old. Any idea to approx. worth? I already have a newer T-maxx so I'm a little undecided on this one.
Thanks,
Aaron

I'd sell it, but thats just me.
it will be slower then your newer maxx you have, and it will not handle as good either. and the old tank has a priming button and from what I've heard they tend to leak.

i think it MIGHT have collectors value latter on, might be worth keeping as a shelf queen, if you never run it you should get back what you payed.

i recan keep everything stock, and buy another body to paint and keep it as a shelf queen, then if it gains value you have all the original parts there including the body. un-painted.

I have already seen a few NIB original TMaxxes that are selling at or higher then their original retail. I would keep it as a collector NIB. Could take 20 years though for it to be worth a significant amount.

RE: NIB Early first gen T-Maxx
Damn!!! That is REALLY old. That is the exact truck that got me into T-maxxes...
Why is mine so much different?!?! I have the Pro.15, and it has a different gas tank (well, after about 6 of them.) and cooler looking body... And I noticed that your throttle is on the opposite side of the tranny as mine, but I thought mine was also first gen.
Before I clicked this thread, I thought to myself "Sell it and get used maxx", But since you already have another T-maxx, I would suggest keeping it on the shelves. A cool thing to do, would be to take it out of the box, get a new body for it, as someone already said, and set the original box behind the Maxx on "display".

I won a new in box Pro .15 T-Maxx on ebay a few months ago for $225. The seller sold quite a few of them for around that price. I wasn't sure about opening it because I thought it might be a collectors item but after doing some checking it seems they're not very collectable. I went ahead and opened mine and ran it. I only put about 1/2 gallon through the pro .15 engine though including break-in, it's still like new. I upgraded the truck to full 2.5 specs, and now upgraded the 2.5 to a new 3.3.

i think later on they upgraded the pro .15 to a slide carb, thus the throttle on the opposite side...

I would keep it in the box, just like it is. That is the the truck that started the monster truck craze and will be worth some cash someday. If you run it, then it will be just another used truck.

Whomever wants to collect it just needs to realize that it won't be worth a bunch until about 2025-2030 and the numbers are few and demand is high. There are other investments that will payoff far better.
I do believe that the original Maxxes will be worth something, but that is a lot of time to wait for a few hundred extra dollars.

Its definalty a hard call: Kepp it untill it gains value - if it ever does. Sell it and buy something else. OR maybe even use it for fun. I would probably go with what ttoks said and buy a new body to customize it as a beatiful self-queen, because we can all admitt sometimes we just love to gaze at our cars.

WOW, even my first Gen Tmaxx came with a painted body. Thats pretty cool. I remember the first thing I did after a few tanks was get a MegaTech M-16. Several Tmaxxes later...Hang on to it, you've got something rare.
