Default Revo 3.3 turning radius

Okay, I got my Revo and can't keep my hands off of it. It is sitting on my desk next to me here at work. I have a question about the turning radius. I read this [link=http://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42178]link[/link] and it explains a way to help it. It is for a 2.5 though. Anyone know if it will work for a 3.3?

www.traxxas.com check out steve slayden's pit pass for the Revo (it's on the right hand side), a better steering servo will also help

It definitely does work. I used the Steve Slayden method which goes further than the link you posted. You will get more steering travel than only doing what was on your link. Works a treat and helps cure alot of the understeer inherent in the standard Revo.

The mod works great with the stock Axle Carriers, I have had problems with Pivot Balls popping out of my RPM axle Carriers when using this mod with them. The best I can remember using this mod with RPM Axle Carriers will void the warranty that comes with the carriers also.

So I can do these mods with the stock servos and horns right? Just shave the stops and other specified areas and the stock servos will travel further? One the I also noticed that was not addressed was the steering servo skid guards. It looks like the linkages are already hitting them when turned all the way. ???

Okay I shaved the bump stops and it looks like I gained a tiny bit of extra travel but...I am wondering how much gain I can get out of the stock steering servos. Any one know if I should shave the bellcrank too or is it pointless with the stock servos?

The stock servo's will travel just as far as any other servo would. Just not as fast or with as much torque. What you shave off is what is limiting the travel. I think shaving the bellcrank is kinda pointless IMO and I didn't do it. I did everything else though and My turning radius has decreased greatly. The two main things that made a diffrence was shaving the bump stops and buying a longer servo arm(aluminum because the plastic always stripped on me..)

Okay thanks Venom. I think that I need some longer arms to see more travel at this point and then I will definitly need to make room on the skid guards for the servo arms. Could you take a couple pics for me venom of your guards and arms so I can see what type arms to get? Thanks again man.

I am useing aluminum servo horns because my servo rips apart the plastic ones. I just snapped some pics of my set-up with my phone so sorry in advance for the crapy pics. As you can see I'm not even close to rubbing the servo guards at all.

For the stock servo's you will be fine with plastic servo horns as they only put out 65 oz. of torque where mine put out 320 oz. Mine also cost me an arm and a leg..

You have to realise that diffrent servo's have diffrent splines(diffrent patterns of gear mesh) and will only work propely with the right mesh. The traxxas servo horns luckily have the same spline as futaba servo's. So since you can't buy aluminum servo horns from traxxas(or I just haven't seen any), you can buy some [link=http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/1_61_101/products_id/2027]futaba servo horns.[/link]

I noticed I said arm before and not servo horns. Sorry about that.

Edit: forgot you still have 2 servo's.. So you will need 2 servo horns..

Sanwa - Airtronics, KO Propo, JR, Graupner, Multiplex, Volz all have 23 teeth on their spline. So you want a servo horn with 23 teeth that fits any of the servos listed above. Do a search on Tower Hobbies for "servo horns" and shop for horns that fit any of the servos I mentionned. Many aluminum servo horns come with plastic inserts to fit just about any servo on the market.
I don't even use an aluminum servo horn, I've had good luck with heavy duty Dubro horns. They are made of a very tough and stiff fiber reinforced plastic. [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEKC2&P=7]These are the ones[/link] I use and I dye them black.

Thanks venom! I will be using your help when I continue my modding of the steering. Had a sweet weekend. Some bashing, (I pulled off two Back Flips) and a few hours on the track. My steering seriously needs some help for track driving. Thanks again Venom. I'm gonna upload some pics of my ride in a minute you should check it.

fish, have you looked into other adjustments, not just the steering.. for instance adding one or two degrees gear toe out..

Well lets see.. you can start with toeing in the rear tires about 1.5 degress to help through corners. Then toe out your front tires by about 1.0 degree. That should help the front tires pull through the turns and help the rear tires push through them.

here are a couple more things to help you out on the track:

[link=http://www.traxxas.com/support/index.php?action=artikel&cat=143&id=472&artlang=en]Part 2[/link]

[link=http://www.traxxas.com/support/index.php?action=artikel&cat=143&id=483&artlang=en]Part 3[/link]

Gamesbeer already posted up part 2 but I put it up again.

Glad to hear about your bash sessions also!! Get to know some of the people you race with at the track and they can deffinently help you out around the track. Is it a big track tho? Is it really wide or not? Hard packed dirt or loose.. These factors can determine what you will need to adjust your truck to fit the needs of the track.

adding a few degrees toe out on the rear wheels will make the truck more agile, on the turn in and mid turn, but you'll loose some strait line stability.
