Extremeflight 88.5" Extra - Build and Fly
Hi guys,
This thread will serve as a complete build step by step and eventually some video of the coming out soon ExtremeFlight 88.5" Extra.
I will have one here next week for an RCU review so this thread will be my full build with lots of pics so I can sum of the review. It's easier this way so I can write all my thoughts together.
I expect it will be here near the end of the week.
As it sits right now I will be using
Brillelli 60
5 x Hitec 5955s
4" Pete Models Extra Spinner
PSP titianium axels
Smart-Fly Power Expander Sport Pro
and all stock hardware
I havent decided on batteries yet, but I am probably going to go with A123s for main and a 1 cell 1500 MaxAmps lipo for ignition.
Should be light and a lot of fun to fly. I had the chance to fly the prototype briefly at HuckFest GA and was very please with how it flew.. now I can set it up the way I like and can get comfortable with it over a few flights and share some feedback.
Plane should start shipping within 2 weeks I believe.
More when it arrives!

The Boxes arrived safe and sound.. the packing job is the best I have seen to date. 1/4 wood skeleton around the fuse box.. cowl seperately shipped and well packed, wings doubleboxed and in wing bags.

Looking good! I'm on the list for the next batch, so I'll be anxiously awaiting their arrival. I need a home for my DA 50 W/ cannister. My PAU extra 330 fell apart on me []

It's just crazy how far model airplane construction had advanced with the advent of laser cutting and CAD. The inside is about as purty as the outside! Looking foward to the thread, but I'll have to crash my QQ Yak before I get one (and I'm not quite ready for that )

I heard the first batch sold out quickly but that there is a 2nd batch in a couple weeks after the first one... I would bet that one will sell out quick as well... they are very nice. My buddy has been waiting for a whiet and red Yak for a bit.. they will be in shortly as well.
I will be doing some building on this guy over the weekend when I can slip it in. Have to finish some last minute x-mas shopping first haha

Jake when you get to the Pilot X can you take some more pictures of it. From what I can tell it looks really nice. I would also like for you to show how you are going to attach the pilot and the dash panel.
Thanks
Thanks

here are some pics of my pilot X and dash, I have just used double sided tape and some UHU por foam glue to stick the pilot and panel to the depron base and the same to glue the depron base to the wooden canopy frame.

RE: Extremeflight 88.5" Extra - Build and Fly
And so it begins.... X-mas shopping for the wife is done... now I have a day to start building. Unfortunately servos are in transit so I won't be building it step by step according the manual, but it's time to get started while I have some time.
I am going to take my time with this build so that everything is just the way I want.
Needless to say I took a trip to Sears Hardware this morning to grab a couple different colors of grey paint.
Made sure I sanded all the control horns very well, and then I used some rubbing alcohol to make sure everything was clean. Have to paint inside today since it is raining.
I was a little torn on whether or not to just do the horns black... but I ended up trying to match the stripes on the plane.
More as the day progresses...

Well I put a coat of clear coat on the control arms and decided to move on to the wheel pants while I was waiting for things todry.
The wheel pants are nice looking.. the paint job is very well done with a nice shine to the finished product.
Locate the hardware pack and find your wood support pieces.
First you have to sand the inside of the wheel pants (make sure you get the right side) to prep it for mounting the hardwood suppoer peice. I used a piece of 180 grit sandpaper and went over the entire area where the wood support piece will epoxy to.
I then mixed up some 30 min epoxy, coated the wood support piece and put it into place. I used some of the foam wrapping on the outside of the wheel pant with a squeeze clamp so that I didnt mark the outside of the wheel pants.
I also went the extra step and used a little more epoxy and coated around the wooden support after it was clamped to ensure a good bond.
